A group of Fort Street\u2019s most talented students attended the Northern Suburbs Zone Athletics Carnival on the 17th of June. Competition began early in the morning, with many of our premier long distance athletes taking part in the 3000m and securing podium finishes in all age groups.<\/p>\n

Records fell fast and often for our students, beginning with Jun Min Yap in the 15 Boys 100m (11.68), followed by Xavier Arnold in the 16 Boys 3000m (9:27.29) and 1500m (4:31.69), accompanied by fellow Year 10 partner Reuben Winkler in the 15 Boys 1500m (4:41.26). The brother pairing of Harrison Ma (16 Boys) and Brendan Ma (12 Boys) broke their respective 800m zone records in 2:11.24 and 2:30.81. In the field events, Benjamin Doumit found success in the 15 Boys Shot Put (12.59m) before helping set a new 4x100m Relay record alongside Jun Min Yap, Reuben Winkler and Leonardo Park.<\/p>\n

Congratulations also to our new Zone Athletics Age Champions Sofiah D\u2019Haeveloose (15 Girls), Reuben Winkler (15 Boys), Sophie Kelly (16 Girls), Beatrice Shimada (17 Girls).<\/p>\n

Thanks to the persistent encouragement of Ms Cove and Mr Feng, Fort Street students entered every event possible, regardless of the outcome, helping our school claim the overall Zone Athletics Championship. The victory completes a clean sweep of all three zone championships this year, taking home the plaques for Zone Swimming, Zone Cross Country, and now Zone Athletics.<\/p>\n
