Year 8 French students participated in the wonderful French game of <\/span>p\u00e9tanque <\/span><\/i>to celebrate the end of our unit about sports. This allowed us to put into practice all of the vocabulary we have been learning and to get out of the classroom. P\u00e9tanque is similar to boules, lawn bowls and bocce, generally played on a hard gravelly terrain where boules are launched by two teams trying to get closest to <\/span>un<\/span><\/i> cochonnet<\/span><\/i> (a jack). We watched some videos about how to play and learnt a number of useful phrases that could be used while playing, including \u201cc\u2019est mon tour!\u201d (it\u2019s my turn), \u201cje suis le gagneur!\u201d (I\u2019m the winner) and \u201co\u00f9 est le cochonnet?\u201d (where is the jack?). Students also had to count their points in French – to win you must have <\/span>treize points<\/span><\/i> (13 points), which means 13 of your boules were closer than the other team\u2019s. This was a fun lesson that we got to spend outside and we all learnt a little more about this popular French game.<\/span><\/p>\n
