‘In Concert’ and Important dates for upcoming IMP Performances
‘In Concert’ Performance
On Monday 27 May, 103 Fortians took centre stage in a massed choir of over 700 students at the ‘In Concert’ Secondary Choral Festival. Fort Street was by far the largest choral group to take part in the concert, held in the magnificent Sydney Town Hall and accompanied by guest artist Darren Percival and a full symphony orchestra. Approximately 30 other Fortians also took part, playing in the New South Wales Schools Symphonic Wind Ensemble (SWE), NSW Public School Singers, New South Wales Schools Symphony Orchestra, and as MC of the concert.
Audiences were truly impressed by the high quality of performances by the Combined Secondary Choir and NSW Public Schools Symphony Orchestra including John Rutter’s ‘Gloria’, ‘For all Earthkind’ (Sophie Raymond and Tony King), ‘Waltzing Matilda’ (arranged by James Morrison), James Henry’s ‘Murrgumurrgu’, Tim Minchin’s ‘Matilda Medley’ and the finale – ‘Age of Reason’. In addition, the NSW Public Schools Symphony Orchestra amazed audiences with the technically challenging Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird Suite’. Fortians also participated in dazzling performances by the NSW Public Schools Symphonic Wind Ensemble (Grainger’s ‘Gumsucker’s March’ and Day’s ‘Dancing Fire’) as well as by NSW Public School Singers (Gjeilo’s ‘The Rose’ and Rutter’s ‘Sing a Song of Sixpence’).
IMP students and families should add the following dates to their diaries, where relevant.
Please remember that everyone is an important member of the team, and all performers are expected at every performance. In addition to the dates below, the IMP is working on other performance opportunities (including workshops and performances with other schools, assemblies etc.) so be sure to keep an eye on your emails, and on the IMP Calendar.
