Year 9 Bronze Duke of Ed Information
Fort Street High School is excited to launch the 2026 Bronze Duke of Ed Award for all year 9 students. Here are some key details about the Award.
1. Duke of Ed Process
– All year 9 students are invited to take part in the Bronze award at our school. They have been briefed at school on the process.
– Each student will complete 3 activities in the categories “physical” “skill” and “volunteering” for a total of 12 hours (3 months) over the course of their Bronze award period.
– Students usually complete their Bronze in year 9, Silver in year 10, Gold in year 11.
– Parents will receive permission note via school bytes for the Duke of Ed Bronze registration and registration fee payment. This fee is paid to Duke of Ed. (Please note Duke of Ed registration fees are not refundable if the student does not complete the requirements of the award.)
– Students will be creating a profile on the Duke of Ed online portal (ORB). They will need to provide your email address and you will need to provide consent to Duke of Ed via instructions sent to you by email (from Duke of Ed).
– Students can start logging hours for their activities once they are set up for activities on the ORB portal and consent has been provided by parents to school and to Duke of Ed and registration costs paid. All external assessors must provide Volunteer Commencement Guide paperwork (done via email) and will be verified for Working With Children Check. Fort Street Teachers can be assessors, student do not need to do VCG paperwork for teachers, as we have done this internally.
2. Year 9 Camp (Duke of Ed Hike)
– The year 9 camp is on 9, 10 and 11 September 2026. The students will complete their hiking requirements during the year 9 camp. This will be at Camp Somerset. Tents and camping facilities are provided by Somerset. Students will be required to bring a sleeping bag, food and water bottles.
– Closer to the camp dates, parents will receive permission note via school bytes for the Year 9 Camp. The note will request consent for the camp and payment of camp costs.
