Spring is such as wonderful time of the year, and it is great to be able to get outdoors and enjoy the sunshine. There continues to be lots of exciting things happening at the College. Recently, we held the <em>Secondary Athletics Carnival, the Book week celebrations (Costumes, Parade, and Primary Learning Journey), the Fathering Project Design &amp; Technology night, the Father\u2019s Day stall<\/em> plus other excursions, incursions, and events. These events help foster a sense of community at the College which is essential for student well-being and student learning.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>National School Improvement Plan (NSIP)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Domain #3 of the <strong>National School Improvement Plan (NSIP):<\/strong> <em>A Culture that Promotes Learning<\/em> states that \u2018the school is driven by a deep belief that every student is capable of successful learning. A high priority is given to building and maintaining positive and caring relationships between staff, students, and parents.\u2019 Also, the NSIP Assessment Consideration #3.2 explains how \u2018<em>the staff of the school demonstrate an understanding of the importance of positive and caring relationships to successful learning, and work to build mutually respectful relationships across the school community\u2019<\/em>. The College mission statement reinforces the emphasis upon relationships when it says \u2018we provide a Christ-centred Education in a caring community\u2026\u2019<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>Australian Association of Christian Schools (AACS)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<h5><u>Vision: To promote and defend the value of Christian education<\/u><\/h5>\n<p>The Australian Association of Christian Schools (AACS) is an advocacy organisation representing the interests of over a hundred Christian schools in every State and Territory across the nation. We provide our schools with a voice in the public sphere to ensure they can continue to deliver an authentic Christian education embedded in the teaching and life of the school.<\/p>\n<p>Please click on the weblink for more information: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aacs.net.au\/\">Australian Association of Christian Schools (aacs.net.au)<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h4><strong>WA: Equal Opportunity Act\u00a0E-Petition<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The WA Law Reform Commission has recommended the Government make changes to the Equal Opportunity Act 1984\u00a0that would significantly impact Christian and other faith -based schools. The proposed\u00a0changes would restrict\u00a0our ability to employ Christian staff across all roles within the school and impact the ability of schools to manage enrolments to reflect an alignment with the beliefs of the school.<\/p>\n<p>The Government has talked about introducing legislation this year, however, at the same time the Australian Law Reform Commission (ALRC) is looking at changes to Commonwealth law. We believe there is no urgency to make changes to the WA law, and considerable benefits to ensuring that Commonwealth and State laws align.<\/p>\n<p>We are asking for your help to encourage the WA Government to hold off on changes to the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 until after the ALRC has delivered its final report to Government (due at the end of this year).<\/p>\n<p>WA resident &#8211; please sign the WA Parliament e-Petition to send a strong message to the government. The closing date is soon!
