FCC News – April/May Highlights - 17 May
From our Principal – Mr Stanway

From our Principal – Mr Stanway

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I trust that your week has gone well.

It is so exciting seeing the different things happening across the College. So far this term, we have had the PP-2 Swimming Lessons, the College Production: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr, the Secondary Inter-school Lightning Carnivals (Year 7-9), the Foundation Friend’s Mother’s Day Stall, and the Year 9 Camp. It is wonderful to see the broad range of experiences the students have and the different skills they learn.

Visit to CEN Schools in Melbourne

On Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 March, I visited several CEN Schools in Melbourne. I asked the CEN State Director to recommend different schools who have gone through a growth period, have more enrolments than FCC, and have developed a leadership team during this time.

  • Donvale Christian College
  • Plenty Valley Christian College
  • Melton Christian College
  • Bayside Christian College

With all of the schools I visited, there was a strong sense of being very intentional about our CEN distinctions. Whether that be at a staffing level or with parents or within the student culture, the expectations and clarity of who we are as a Christian school, and what we stand for needs to be clear.

CEN New Principal’s Gathering

Every year, CEN invites new Principal’s to gather together prior to the Executive Conference. (I missed out in 2020 and 2021, because of Covid-19, then last year, when I was due to fly-out, I tested positive for Covid-19.)  The CEN New Principal’s Gathering was held on Wednesday 29th March. It was a great opportunity to meet with other Principals and to have input relevant to the role we have in Christian schools.

CEN Executive Conference

The CEN Executive Conference was held on Thursday 30th & Friday 31st March. The theme was ‘Story: His story, your story, and our story!’ The keynote sessions were outstanding, and the opportunity to meet other leaders and network was great. Because we were all together at the same hotel, every day we could had opportunities to network with other leaders over breakfast, lunch or dinner.

CEN National Conference & AGM

The CEN National Conference & AGM was held on Saturday 1st & Sunday 2nd April. The them was ‘At the Table’. Once again, the keynote speakers were outstanding, and the opportunity to network and connect with other leaders was so valuable.

Alphacrucis University College & National Institute of Christian Education (NICE)

On Saturday 13 May, I attended the graduation ceremony in Sydney after graduating from Alphacrucis University College with a Master of Education (Leadership). I enrolled with the National Institute of Christian Education (NICE) in July 2020 and finished earlier this year. (NICE partner together with Alphacrucis for accreditation purposes).

It has been an amazing journey, and I want to thank God for his grace during this time. I also want to thank the Board and Executive team at Foundation Christian College for their support and encouragement. It was a great honour to attend the graduation ceremony and to reflect back over the last few years. I deliberately choose subjects that aligned with what we were working on as a College. I found the readings very inspiring, informative, and practical, and it has challenged me both personally and professionally. At FCC, all new staff are encouraged to undertake two foundational Units towards a Master of Education in Christian education which is done through the National Institute of Christian Education (NICE).

PS Here are some pics from the Graduation ceremony!!!

FCC is unique in that we are a Parent Association, and our core mission is provide a Christ-centered education in a caring community and equip students for the 21st century. Your support and on-going partnership are greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your ongoing partnership with the College, and I look forward to seeing you at the AGM. It is wonderful being part of the CEN family of schools and to work closely together with staff, students, and parents at FCC.

God bless you!

Kind regards,

Neville Stanway

Principal

Mother’s Day Gift Stall a SUCCESS!

Mother’s Day Gift Stall a SUCCESS!

Families we hope you enjoyed celebrating your Mother’s and those who stand-in for Mother’s on the weekend. Our Foundaiton Friends Fundraising Team worked so hard to bring our students a very exciting shopping opportunity on 10 and 11 May – the annual Mother’s Day Gift Stall.

Every Primary School Class visited the stall over Wednesday and Thursday and we had a special visitor who spoke with each class a CARE BEAR (Thank you Mrs Chong and Mrs Warn!!) The doors were open to the whole school on Thursday lunchtime. The queue was over 20 metres long! It was very busy, and our tables were bare by the end, which means many Mum’s were spoilt!

These special events could not be made possible without the tireless work of amazing Fundraising Team…You know who you are. Thank you!

If you would like to be part of the Fundraising Team, please let Michelle Cronin know and she will link you in the Messenger group.

AGM – Wednesday 24 May

AGM – Wednesday 24 May

Our College AGM will be held on Wednesday 24 May from 7:00pm – 8:30pm and this is a very important date in our College calendar.

We will meet our current Board Members, vote in and welcome new Board Members and hear about the plans for the College. Items will be voted on and we require a quorum of Full Members so that our meeting is valid, so please make sure you either come along or join online!

A delicious supper will be served prior to the meeting and a creche is available for children. Emails with all details have been sent to families. Please contact Sarah Mitchell or the College Office if you need further clarification.

This term has already been filled with many activities for our amazing students, making it a terrific term already indeed!

  • The production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang was simply outstanding! I extend my appreciation to FCC’s production team for their tireless efforts and countless after hours commitment. Their dedication has truly paid off!
  • We had the pleasure of listening to our first primary student worship band play at our worship, and they sounded amazing!
  • Healthy Harold made an appearance throughout our Primary School! Students learned about Staying Healthy, Cyber Safety, First Aid and so much more!
  • Mother’s Day Stall was a huge success, with almost all stock sold.
  • Kindy also celebrated Mother’s Day with an afternoon tea and mum pampering.
  • Last week our Year 5 and 6 students participating in the GRIT inter-school competition against Frederick Irwin. It was great to witness a healthy competition with Frederick Irwin at our college.

Overall, it has been an outstanding start to Term 2, and I would like to thank everyone for their contributions and above-and-beyond efforts. You are all amazing! The successful culmination of all these amazing activities is only possible with a sense of unity and working together.

Ephesians 4:11-16
11 So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16 From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

Primary School Sports Association (PSSA) @ FCC

Our College has commenced competition in our local Primary Schools Sports Association ! What an exciting time for Sport at FCC!.

Year 5 and 6 students competed in Soccer, Netball, Hockey, AFL and Volleyball. We hosted Frederick Irwin Anglican School on Friday 13 May for four of the sports and we are very proud of the conduct of our students, their sportsmanship was excellent!

We will continue to have competitions with other local primary schools every second Friday over Term 3 and 4. Please enjoy some photographic highlights below:

Kindy Mother’s Day Celebrations

Kindy Mother’s Day Celebrations

On Friday 12 May Kindy enjoyed celebrating and blessing our very special Mum’s.

Students entertained their Mum’s with some energetic singing and dancing. They then spent time pampering their Mum’s, painting their nails, giving them massages, brushing their hair, and making bracelets with them.

Our Kindy’s then served their Mum’s a delicious afternoon tea of scones, jam and cream and gave them some very special presents they had made.

Our hearts were full watching the lovely exchange of gifts and care from children to their Mum and we hope all our Mum’s had a lovely Mother’s Day on Sunday!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr

A huge congratulations to all students who participated in the Production last week. The closing night show performed to a full house, and the audience was delighted. This was a huge effort from all involved.

I was so impressed by the way that the students pulled together and really became the FCC family throughout the process, especially during show week. Many friendships were formed across year levels, and it was great to see the older students presenting confident, professional role models for our younger students.

It would not be possible to acknowledge all the staff who contributed in this forum, but I would like to thank all those staff who gave of their time to ensure the show’s success, including staff from Technologies, Humanities, English, Science, Administration, Teaching & Learning and other areas.

We were privileged to have three instrumental tutors participate in the show, and the hospitality really completed the experience. I am so grateful to all the staff who went on the whole journey, tracking with the students through each step. Thank you to families for your support, and we look forward to the next chapter in our exciting Arts journey!

Lightning Carnivals Years 7-9

Lightning Carnivals Years 7-9

Our Years 7-9 Students competed against Perth Schools in ACC Lightning Carnivals on 8 and 9 May. We won more games than we lost which gives us great confidence for our training and for when we compete in future events! Go FCC!!

It was a busy Week 3 for Secondary as we embraced the opportunity to compete in Lightning Carnivals in Perth. We are always grateful for the opportunity to take our students off-campus to participate in these types of events, they build character, teamwork and resilience. Thank you to Mr Aspeling and his team for making this happen!

SCUBA @ FCC

SCUBA @ FCC

Our Year 12 Outdoor Education students are now NAUI qualified SCUBA divers!

They participated in a 5-week SCUBA course. The course involved a total of 6 ocean dives along with a pool component and a written theory test.

The students also get a point for their WACE as the course is an endorsed program.

FCC are the only school in the Peel region that offer SCUBA diving as part of the year 12 ODE course. How amazing is that!?

Thank you Mr Capener and Mr Harding for bringing your passion for ODE to our school and for challenging our students to have a go beyond where they “think” they can go in ODE!

Enjoy some images of our students in SCUBA Action!

SEQTA for Students and Parents

SEQTA is used by College Staff and Students and SEQTA Engage is a powerful tool for parents to have an overview of their child’s learning and assessments.

It also provides a communication channel for parents and teachers, enabling greater collaboration and enhanced learning outcomes for our students. At Foundation Christian College, our families are encouraged to use this program. Students in Secondary will be using SEQTA Learn.

Within SEQTA Engage, you will have access to a number of pages. Below is an outline of how SEQTA Engage is utilised within our College and what to familiarise yourself with:

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr – It’s a Wrap!

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr – It’s a Wrap!

After months and months of preparation, rehearsals, construction, rehearsals, sewing, rehearsals, and rehearsals – the 2023 College Production of Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr is over and was a huge success!

Primary School Students were treated to the first dress rehearsal show the day before opening night and went home very excited!

As each night progressed ticket sales increased so that the last show was a sell-out and critics have said “It was fantastic! FCC should be very proud.” And we are.

Well done to our Main Production Team: Mrs Angelos-Director, Mrs Abercrombie-Vocal Director, Mr Baker-Music Director, Mrs Kemp- Stage Manager, Miss Lindley-Choreographer and Mr Capener-Set and Tech Design.

Of course the show could not be possible without the countless hours of support by the cast, the students and staff who worked behind the scenes and, of course our wonderful parents and families who supported this event in every way!

Thank you FCC!

Music @ FCC by Mrs Abercrombie

Music @ FCC by Mrs Abercrombie

It has been an exciting few months for the Music Department as we cross the finish line of the Production and enter the starting line for Instrumental Recitals. The students have embraced every opportunity given to them this term and I cannot wait to see them flourish with their musical endeavours.

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr

Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr saw the students singing at the top of their lungs and embracing musical complexities that we had not yet discovered at Foundation Christian College! Not only were there three-part harmonies, but also the ability to learn complex melody lines and coordinating this with choreography and a general stage presence. Congratulations to all of my beautiful musicians, singers, and performers who embraced this journey. A special thank you to Layla Cooper, Milani Chong, Tadisa Ruwodo and Amalie Calicdan for supporting the production with their strong vocal technique and powerful sight-reading skills. I’m so grateful that you joined the team. It was an honour to be the Vocal Director with all the cast and crew! **For more photos from the Production please see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang Jr Article in this newsletter.

Instrument REcitals

In just a few weeks, we will see our Instrumental Students perform in their recitals for Semester 1. We now have approximately 100 students on instruments are at Foundation Christian College. Family and friends will be notified of recital times and you can watch your young musical proteges perform on their instruments. Thank you to our amazing tutors who continue to nurture and guide our students.

Primary Choir to record live music!

Finally, I would like to announce that the Foundation Christian College Primary Choirs will be performing and recording in the John Butler Studio in just a few weeks. They will be performing and recording the School Song and the National Anthem that will now be used at the assemblies from here on in. It’s going to be an incredible opportunity for students to learn how to work in a recording studio environment and listen to the musicians accompany them as they perform. I would say it’s an opportunity of a lifetime.

That’s all from me for now!

Blessings
