Principal’s Post

Dear FCC Families,

At Foundation Christian College, we are proud of our distinction in the community as an authentic Christ-centred Christian education College. Our mission is to see students flourish in faith, character, and learning, and this term has been another rich example of how God is at work among us. Whether in the classroom, on the sporting field, or through community events, we are striving for learning excellence in all areas, underpinned by our commitment to Christ and His Word.

In Our Community

We began the term by hosting the Christian Education National (CEN) Symposium for WA CEN schools. Our College came alive with staff from Rehoboth Christian College, Geraldton Christian College, and Carnarvon Christian College joining together, united in Christ, for two full days of professional development. Every area of College life was enriched as our staff were upskilled across teaching, leadership, wellbeing, and community engagement. It was months of planning and teamwork, but also incredibly rewarding to see the fruit of those efforts in action.

We were also blessed to see our Father’s Day Stall come to life, lovingly organised by our amazing parents. It was a great success, and we thank everyone who contributed their time and effort to bless our students with such a joyful experience.

Our Family Evening Event was also a hit! Families and children came together on a Friday night to enjoy each other’s company, play board games, and take part in sports in the MPH. The engineering room was buzzing with creativity as kids (and parents!) built wooden planes, periscopes, and even a bird creature. And of course, the delicious beef and gravy rolls made the night extra special. We love our families and the way these moments strengthen our sense of belonging.

The Primary and Secondary Choirs also lit up our theatre with their recent performances to families. The harmonies were epic, the atmosphere was alive, and it was a wonderful celebration of the God-given gifts of our students and staff.

Another highlight was taking a group of our student leaders to the Governor’s Prayer Breakfast, held at Crown with over 1,000 people in attendance. It was deeply encouraging to see so many national leaders openly professing their faith in Jesus and praying boldly over our nation. Moments like this remind us that our work in Christian education is part of something much larger — a movement of faith across our country.

We are also so grateful for your recent responses to our Strategic Plan Survey. Your feedback is shaping the reports and action plans now being prepared, ensuring that the next steps for FCC are prayerfully grounded in both God’s Word and the wisdom of our community.

In Our Classrooms

Our implementation of the Gradual Release of Responsibility continues to gain traction. Students and staff have built strong routines and are now expanding these practices across more learning areas. We are seeing this model applied in novel studies, where students engage deeply with texts, and in core knowledge units in history and science. These approaches provide structure, opportunities for differentiation, and pathways for extension, giving every student the chance to flourish. I look forward to sharing more stories of impact in future updates.

In Our Staffrooms

We’ve continued to expand our support team, with more education assistants supporting students across additional year levels. This growth is helping us to better meet diverse needs and strengthen a culture of inclusivity across the College.

To further build on this work, we are also engaging a Teaching and Learning Consultant who is working alongside our amazing staff to establish a strong upward rhythm in teaching and learning. This highly skilled consultant has worked with hundreds of schools across Australia, supporting best practice in differentiation, student engagement, and high-impact teaching strategies. Their expertise will help equip our educators to continue providing quality, Christ-centred learning experiences for all students.

Father’s Day Stalls

Father’s Day Stalls

This year’s Father’s Day stalls were once again a wonderful success, thanks to the hard work of our amazing volunteers. A huge thank you goes to all who gave their time and effort to put together such a fantastic gift stall—we are so grateful for you!

Our students had a blast choosing the perfect gift for their Dad or the special Father-figure in their life. The excitement of shopping, wrapping, and imagining the joy of giving was clear to see on every face.

We also held some fun competitions as part of the stalls:

  • Raffle Winners – Congratulations to Pheobe Nicoll, who took home a bucket of “handy Dad stuff” valued at almost $150, and to Luke Fletcher, who won second prize—two tickets to Reading Cinema!

  • Guess the Lollies – Well done to Amarra Hudson, who correctly guessed that there were 327 lollies in the jar.

We hope that all of our dads enjoyed Father’s Day, unwrapping their gifts and knowing they were chosen with love and care.

We appreciate the donations from Bunnings for the donation of the voucher used in our raffle and to Reading Cinemas for the donation of tickets used as second prize in our raffle!

Thank you again to our volunteers and to everyone who made this special event possible.

Dads n Kids Games, STEM and Beef Roll night!

Dads n Kids Games, STEM and Beef Roll night!

On Thursday, 29 August, we celebrated families with a fun-filled Dad’s N Kids Games Night! The evening was packed with laughter, friendly competition, and plenty of memories made.

Families had the chance to enjoy a wide variety of activities, from classic board and card games to balloon tennis (Keepy Uppy!), chess, and checkers. For those who loved to get creative, there were also woodwork projects to build—model planes, periscopes, and fish—these were a big hit with both kids and parents.

Dinner was another highlight of the night: delicious roast beef and gravy rolls, prepared with care by our very own Principal, Mr King, alongside our Food Tech Teacher, Mrs Johnston.

With over 100 parents and kids attending, the atmosphere was full of energy and joy. It was such a wonderful opportunity to bring families together, strengthen connections, and celebrate the importance of spending time with one another.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and helped make the night such a success—we can’t wait for the next one!

West Coast Eagles at FCC

West Coast Eagles at FCC

Our Primary students were buzzing with excitement when the West Coast Eagles visited Foundation Christian College to run a special AFL clinic. It was an incredible opportunity for our students to learn new skills, stay active, and be inspired by professional athletes.

The Eagles players and coaches led fun and engaging activities that helped our students develop their kicking, handballing, and teamwork. Beyond the drills, they also spoke about the importance of persistence, respect, and working together—values that align closely with our own here at the College.

The highlight of the day was seeing our students give their best effort, cheer one another on, and walk away with big smiles (and maybe a few new favourite players!). Events like this not only encourage healthy lifestyles but also inspire our students to set goals, stay active, and enjoy the fun of sport.

We extend our thanks to the West Coast Eagles for investing in our students and creating such a memorable experience.

Primary Athletics Carnival

Primary Athletics Carnival

Our Primary Athletics Carnival was a wonderful day of competition, encouragement, and community spirit. Leading up to the event, students had been training hard during their Physical Education lessons, building skills in running, jumping, and throwing. Their effort and preparation shone through on the day as each event was filled with energy, determination, and plenty of cheering from classmates, staff, and families.

It was fantastic to see every student giving their best—whether they were sprinting down the track, leaping into the long jump pit, or pushing themselves in the distance races. Beyond the results, the carnival highlighted the values of teamwork, encouragement, and perseverance.

We would like to congratulate all of our students for their participation and especially our top performers from each event in each year level. These students have earned the opportunity to represent Foundation Christian College at the upcoming WACSSA Interschool Athletics Carnival. We look forward to seeing them compete with excellence and integrity as they showcase their skills alongside other schools.

A huge thank you to our staff and volunteers for their support on the day, and to the many families who came along to cheer—it was your encouragement that made the carnival such a memorable and uplifting occasion.

Primary Cross Country Carnival

Primary Cross Country Carnival

Our Primary students recently laced up their runners and gave it their all at this year’s Cross Country Carnival. It was a fantastic day filled with determination, encouragement, and plenty of school spirit.

From our youngest students bravely tackling their first laps to our seasoned runners pushing themselves to achieve personal bests, every participant showed resilience and commitment. It was inspiring to see students not only striving for their own goals but also cheering on their classmates from start to finish.

We would like to congratulate all of our runners on their efforts and celebrate those who achieved outstanding results. Our top-performing students earned the opportunity to represent Foundation Christian College at the WACSSA Interschool Cross Country Carnival. This was a wonderful chance for them to compete alongside students from other schools and showcase their hard work and perseverance.

A big thank you goes to our staff and volunteers for helping make the day such a success, and to all the families who came to support our students. Events like this highlight the value of teamwork, encouragement, and striving for excellence in all we do.

Running Club

Running Club

This term saw the launch of our Primary Running Club, designed to help students prepare for the upcoming Cross Country Carnival. What started as a way to build fitness, stamina, and confidence quickly grew into something much more.

Each week, students turned up with enthusiasm, eager to challenge themselves and encourage one another. The club became a place not just to train, but also to build friendships, grow resilience, and celebrate each student’s progress.

While the initial goal was to support students in the lead-up to the Cross Country Carnival, the popularity of the club meant it didn’t end there. Even after the carnival was over, students continued to come along, showing that running had become more than just preparation—it had become something they genuinely enjoy.

We are so proud of the commitment and energy our students have shown. A huge thank you to the staff who have supported the club and to the families who have cheered on their children each week. We look forward to seeing the club continue to grow and inspire a love of running in our Primary students.

Year 11 and 12 Final Art Projects

Year 11 and 12 Final Art Projects

Our Senior Art students are in the midst of creating their final projects, and the creativity on display is truly inspiring. These works represent the culmination of years of developing skills, experimenting with different mediums, and refining personal styles.

The Year 11 and 12 students have been exploring a wide range of themes. Each project reflects not only technical ability but also the individual voice and vision of the artist.

As deadlines approach, our art rooms are full of energy and focus. Students are carefully planning, problem-solving, and bringing their ideas to life with dedication and passion. Their work stands as a testament to the excellence, perseverance, and creativity we value at Foundation Christian College.

We are incredibly proud of the effort our senior students are putting into these final pieces and look forward to celebrating their achievements at the upcoming showcase. These projects are not only an important part of their academic journey but also a chance to share their God-given talents with the wider community.

FCC at the 2025 World Skills Competition

FCC at the 2025 World Skills Competition

Just before end of Term 2 Elize de Vos flew to Brisbane to spend a week participating in the 2025 World Skills Competition. Elize competed in the Hospitality division representing the Southwest TAFE.

To receive this honour Elize achieved first place in the WA/State Competition and her prize was the trip to Brisbane and her entry to compete in the National Finals.

Over three days, Elize ensured her cutlery was polished, linens folded, and tables set to perfection as she then waited for Cookery students to prepare the meals which were then served to guests.

On day 1 Elize served the judge’s breakfast. Day 2 was lunch and for the lunch service, Elize prepared and served a mocktail named “The Brizzy”, which is now on the menu at Saltbush Restaurant located within Mandurah TAFE. On day 3 Elize served dinner to the judges.

Elize was successful in obtaining a top 10 place in the national competition.

Elize says of her experience: “I started off with a Cert 2 in Hospitality with nothing further planned – just an extra qualification – and got asked if I wanted to do a regional competition. I thought ‘why not’ so I did it for fun! I ended up coming first so I was sent up to Brisbane for a nationals comp.

“We stayed at Four Points by Sheraton Brisbane. We had to walk every day to the convention and exhibition centre for our competitions which was about a 20-minute walk. We served customers who were leaders from other states. I ended the competition week with a night doing puttputt golf and bowling along with KFC to finish off the hard and stressful week. I even had a nice 2-hour chat with the flight attendants at the back and got given free things! I really enjoyed the experience and am very grateful.”

Well done Elize – We are very proud of you!

Kayaking in Outdoor Ed

Kayaking in Outdoor Ed

This term, Outdoor Education students swapped the classroom for the great outdoors, taking part in a kayaking session that challenged both their physical skills and personal growth.

From the first push off the shore to navigating currents and keeping balance, students embraced the activity with determination and enthusiasm. Along the way, they demonstrated our core value of Excellence — giving their best effort, learning new techniques, and supporting each other to improve.

Excellence at Foundation Christian College is more than simply achieving a good outcome; it’s about the mindset and commitment we bring to every task. In kayaking, just as in life, the greatest progress comes when we are willing to step outside our comfort zones and keep working at our skills.

It was a wonderful day of learning, teamwork, and connection with God’s creation — and we are proud of the way our students rose to the challenge.

Choral Afternoon

Choral Afternoon

Music filled the College as we gathered for our annual Choral Afternoon, a wonderful celebration of the musical gifts within our school community. Students from both Primary and Secondary took to the stage, presenting a mix of group and individual performances that highlighted their talent, hard work, and love of music.

The afternoon featured a variety of styles, from lively ensemble pieces to moving solo performances. Each item reflected the dedication of our students and the guidance of our passionate music staff. For many, it was a chance to build confidence, share their God-given gifts, and experience the joy of performing before an appreciative audience.

It was inspiring to see students supporting one another, with enthusiastic applause and encouragement filling the room. This spirit of community and celebration made the afternoon a truly memorable event for performers and audience alike.

We are proud of every student who participated and grateful to the families and staff who helped make the Choral Afternoon such a success. Events like this remind us of the richness that the arts bring to our College and the importance of nurturing creativity alongside academic and sporting pursuits.

Japanese Exchange Students Visit

Japanese Exchange Students Visit

This term we had the wonderful opportunity to welcome a group of Japanese exchange students to Foundation Christian College. Their visit was a special cultural exchange that brought both learning and friendship to our school community.

During their time with our Secondary students, the exchange group shared about life in Japan while also learning more about Australian culture. Through conversations, activities, and shared experiences, both groups gained a deeper appreciation of each other’s traditions and ways of life. It was an enriching time that highlighted the value of understanding and celebrating different cultures.

The exchange students also spent time with our Primary classes, where they taught the children how to fold origami frogs. Our students loved the hands-on activity and the chance to learn a traditional Japanese art form directly from their visitors. The joy and laughter in the classrooms showed how meaningful these simple cultural connections can be.

We are so grateful for the visit of our Japanese exchange students and the friendships formed during their stay. Experiences like these not only broaden horizons but also remind us of the importance of respect, curiosity, and learning from one another.

Book Week Excitement

Book Week Excitement

This term our College came alive with colour, creativity, and a love for stories as we celebrated Book Week. The theme for this year was “Book an Adventure”, and our students embraced it with enthusiasm.

Throughout the week, classes engaged in a range of activities designed to foster a deeper love of reading. From shared story times and book-themed art projects to discussions about favourite authors and characters, students were reminded of the joy and power of books.

One of the highlights was our much-anticipated Book Week Parade, where students and staff dressed up as beloved book characters. The effort and imagination that went into the costumes was inspiring, and the excitement on the day was contagious.

Book Week is always a wonderful reminder of how stories help us to imagine, learn, and connect with one another. We are thankful to our staff for organising such engaging activities and to our families for supporting students in celebrating this special event.
