Primary School Swimming Carnival

Our Primary School Swimming Carnival was held on Wednesday 6 March and was a wonderful, colourful event. Many thanks go to Mr Johnston and his team who put together an enjoyable and very smooth-running day.

Well done to our Student Leaders who did much to help with taking marshalling slips to and from the records table, and keeping our volunteers fed and hydrated. AND to our parent helpers – you did am amazing job of time-keeping for us!

Harmony Day Celebrations Video

We enjoyed our FCC Harmony Day Celebrations on Monay 25 March!

Our Team put the following video together and as you will see we had a wonderful time celebrating the many cultures that are represented at our school!

Congratulations to former Head Boy – now a WAAPA Student!

TJ Ruwodo is well on his way to achieving his dream of becoming an actor. Having won two of three Canning Shakespeare Competitions he competed in, and performed in many College Productions and Recitals, we always knew he would pursue acting.

When advised he had received a place in the much-coveted Diploma course TJ said, “Mum and Dad were overjoyed when they heard the good news, but for me it was an interesting overwhelming feeling, yet rewarding … as I know I worked so hard to get to this point.”

“I am enjoying it so much, every day it is so different, keeping me on my toes. What has surprised me is that I thought the WAAPA environment would be very competitive and straight business, but I have found it to be relaxed, and everyone is kind and uplifting; it’s a really good environment to be in.”

He will complete his Diploma of Acting at the end of this year and then decide whether he will try his hand in the business of acting or continue studying his Bachelor of Acting.

All the best TJ! We are proud of you!

Year 7 and 9 Commencement Services

Earlier this term, our Year 7 and 9 Cohorts celebrated the milestone in the education journey with a commencement service.

WA Police Chaplain Paul Trimble was the guest speaker for the Year 7 Service and Mr Josh Abercrombie was the guest speaker at the Year 9 Service. What great messages of encouragement they both shared with our students!

Miss Steenkamp, our Year 9 & 10 Coordinator had this to say about the celebration for the Year 9 Students.

“On the evening of Wednesday 21 February, we had our Year 9 commencement service to celebrate our Year 9 students and to bless them as they go into a really transitional period of their lives where many things will change and shift.  It was a special night that we hope our Year 9’s will reflect and look back on as an important turning point in their school journeys.

We encouraged our students to reflect on who they want to become, and how their character will be shaped by the choices they make. They were encouraged to reflect on the amazing plan that God has for their lives, and to trust Him in every season. Parents had the opportunity to encourage and pray over their child and ‘send’ them into this next chapter of their lives.

The students wrote a letter to themselves and symbolically ‘stepped into’ the new season of their lives as their parents and guardians ‘stepped back.’ We saw parents and students having some really special moments together during this time and the feedback we received from parents was really positive.”

Special thanks to the teams who worked to make these events happen and to our Head of Year 7 & 8, Mr Burnley and Head of Year 9 & 10 Miss Steenkamp who coordinated their respective Commencement Services.

I hope you are enjoying our Term 1, holidays and what a Term it was!

We all were busy with much to learn inside and outside the classroom.

Our Community Relations Team has tried something different with our news this term. We have utilised the News button on our Foundation Christian College App and as events happen, as best as we can, we uploaded the article and images to it. We hope that you have seen the notifications and been curious enough to have a look at the News.

We have now completed the term, so this newsletter features all the articles that we have published as News this term.

Don’t have the Foundation Christian College App? You can access it by searching for Foundation Christian College in either GooglePlay or the App Store.

Next Term there will be some additional changes to the App that we think will be really useful to you, including a link to commonly ustilised College policies and procedures.

Once again thank you for all of your support during the term. We hope that you enjoy reflecting on Tem 1 and look forward to seeing you all in Term 2. Return Date is Monday 15 April!

Secondary School is off to a great start for 2024!

Secondary School is off to a great start for 2024!

Dear Parents and Families,

It has been a great pleasure to see students and staff start the Year across Secondary. In my initial meeting with students, we dubbed 2024 ‘the Year for more!’. Some of the many changes that you may notice around the school include:

  • A new Secondary Staff Room
  • Posters, highlighting our CORE Values (Mr Cronin is creating containers for the positive CORE cards that many students are receiving!)
  • A new French program for Year 7-8
  • A newly introduced IMPACT program for Year 7
  • A newly introduced Christian Living program, run by Belle Kennedy (see a couple of slides below)
  • The Great Visual Art and Science Lab move (Thank you to Mr Chidlow and Mr Subke, who worked tirelessly over the holidays to make this happen)
  • A new Media studio in the making (watch this space!!)

I feel really privileged to be involved in the FCC community, both as a teacher and a parent, and can’t wait to see God’s blessing on this year.

Blessings,

Pete Shanhun

(Head of Secondary)

THANK YOU TO THOSE WHO …. cooked a meal for a family in need!

UPDATE…

I put the call out earlier in the term (as per below) for meals for families in need and I have been over-whelmed! THANK YOU to everyone who has brought in meals! I have successfully filled TWO freezers.

With that in mind, if you hear of a family in need of some support and a meal might be a blessing to them, please let me know and I will arrange to get the meal to them

Thanks again everyone! Your generosity is such a beautiful example of Jesus to our community!

Previous request….

If you are up to cooking (or shopping!) over the weekend, would you please consider making an extra meal for our Emergency Meals Freezer?
Basically, feel free to contribute anything that you know will freeze well and that a family would enjoy. We can add the extra dry goods if anything needs to go with it.
Servings can be individual or family size.

Ideas/Suggestions for things to cook are:
  • Curries
  • Stews
  • Stirfries
  • Mexican mince/beans
  • Bolognese mince
  • Soups
Just to be safe, please do not bring in nut products or products containing nuts.

We have these meals on hand in case we need to bless a family in need.

Please bring any meal to the College Reception and they will ensure it is passed on to me or put in the freezer!

Thanking you all in advance!

Week 2 in Secondary and Secondary Parent Information Evening reminder.

Dear Parents and Families,

It was an absolute pleasure to walk around and visit a number of classes this week, seeing students calm, motivated and engaged. There really is a beautiful atmosphere around the College. I observed Year 7 Music students singing solfa and doing rhythm practice, Year 9 Science students doing a Kahoot, and Year 12 Food Tech students finishing their caramelized popcorn (which, of course, I was obliged to sample!). The Year 12 students were each able to retell a learning point before they left the class.

Our staff have also been busy! Here, our staff are having their weekly Friday worship, capably led by Sarah Mitchell, Sam Keating and Jean Martin. We also found a staff member who was very happy to receive his first CORE card for the year! Mr Carman has taken the CORE card containers home over the weekend, so they should look very different for our Secondary Information Evening! Well done to all our students who are demonstrating our CORE values!

Launch of ESTEEM!

Launch of ESTEEM!

Our Year 3 and 4 Student Development program called ESTEEM launched this week, with the students participating in a variety of exciting activities aimed to develop their self-esteem, so they can esteem others.

Matthew 22:39 says to love your neighbour as yourself.

Learning about our identity in Christ helps us to value ourselves and see others as God made them.

The students enjoyed ESTEEM based activities through Arts and Craft, Team-building games, Cooking, Media Arts, Drama and Service-learning (making “bucket-filling” cards for the residents of Ageis care).

Please enjoy some images of our Year 3 and 4 Students along with their amazing teachers, in ACTION!

Secondary Information Night a HUGE Success!

Secondary Information Night a HUGE Success!

On Tuesday 13 February our Secondary Team hosted an amazing evening showcasing the variety of subjects we offer at Foundation Christian College.

Parents rotated through the various presentations by our Heads of School and Teaching Staff who shared their subjects with passion! Parents also received their handbook for Secondary School and got to enjoy a supper and decorate cupcakes!

We are very proud of our Secondary Team – a great start to 2024!

Students in Year 5 and 6 enjoyed a taste of winter sports to prepare them for the Peel Schools Competition in Term 2. Students enjoyed 15minute rotations of Netball, Soccer, AFL, Hockey and Volleyball.

If any of our parents have a gifting the above sports we could do with some coaching support. Please let us know if you can help!

Year 7 Camp Update!

Year 7 Camp Update!

Dear Parents and Guardians

We’re thrilled to share that our camp adventure got off to an incredible start!

Upon our arrival, we dove right into water activities and engaging small group discussion about the Bible.

Afterward, our campers enjoyed some well-deserved free time playing sports and bonding with their fellow campers. As the day turned to night, we gathered for a delicious dinner followed by exciting nighttime activities including spotlight and trivia where we even had some sporadic dance competitions.

We kicked off day two with a mini-Olympics, followed by the thrilling challenge of water raft building. To top it all off we went on an epic treasure hunt and even did some orienteering.

Our Campers are enjoying their camp experience and here are some photos for you to see what we have been up to!

Our group consisted of 11 ODE Students, along with our ODE Specialists, Mr Steve Capener, Mr Paul Harding and Mrs Jean Martin, had an amazing time last week diving at the end of the Busselton Jetty, completing 5 dives over 3 days and all divers successfully achieved their Open Water Certificate!

Thanks to #swandivedunsborough who were the ultimate tour guide and assessors for our students – thanks Jesse and Alanah – we are looking forward to the next diving experience!
