WA Chapter eNews November 2022 - 16 November 2022

Message from the President

I can’t believe we’re writing our last newsletter of the year – where has the time gone?

Hopefully, upon reflection of 2022, your institution was able to draw strength and momentum from engaging with alumni, capturing new enrolments, raising necessary funds, and getting the good word out to your communities about all the amazing work your institution is doing.  I also hope that our organisation may have helped you gain a new strategy, a new tool, a new insight or a new connection to support you in your role and help you achieve your personal and professional goals.

As we look to 2023, our chapter is already planning opportunities for connection and growth.  We would love to hear from you to help us shape the opportunities for next year and would be grateful if you could please take a minute to complete the short survey here to help inform our planning.

To those that attended our Chapter Summit last Friday, we sincerely hope you enjoyed the day. To those unable to attend, we hope to see you in 2023!

As always, please feel free to reach out to any member of our committee if we can assist you in any way.

We wish you all the best for the holiday season and look forward to reconnecting in 2023.

Best wishes

Susie Gill | WA Chapter President

End of Year Summit Wrap-up

End of Year Summit Wrap-up

On Friday November 4th, over 60 Educate Plus members and supporters gathered at the QT Hotel in the city for a day of professional development and networking. These events are the perfect opportunity for members and non-members in the world of Advancement to catch up on what’s happening at other schools and in the industry generally.

The day’s speakers covered a wide variety of topics including How to build your alumni, Managing international marketing and enrolments, Admissions – the customer experience, Fundraising – the need for change, and Marketing strategies in schools. The day concluded with a very entertaining presentation from Mick Colliss, an author, poet and writer at Cooch Creative. It was a wonderful way to end a very productive day and we’d like to extend our thanks to all of the wonderful presenters:

Bianca Coleborn (Concordia Lutheran College), Andrew Sculthorpe (Imageseven), Heiko Plange-Korndoerfer CFRE, FFIA, FAIM Plange-Korndoerfer (Perth Zoo), Georgia Allen (Iona Presentation College), Derryn Belford (StudyPerth) and our own Committee Member Clare Underdown (WA Chapter Committee Member).

Although good presentations are what attracts registrations, it is the catching up and knowledge exchange during the day that often reaps the greatest rewards. With the participants’ experience varying from one to over twenty years, there is so much to share, connections to be made and stories to be told.

By the amount of energy in the room it was clear everyone was very excited to be back engaging face to face and the final word was, we are looking forward to more of this in 2023!

Sincere thanks to our Chapter sponsor Fotoworks and event sponsor Scotts, for their support in ensuring the day was such as terrific success.

We’re also keen to hear your thoughts on our communications and activities and what you, as a member, would like from Educate Plus in 2023.

We are asking you to ‘have your say’. Please spend a few minutes responding thoughtfully to the survey questions in the link below:

Advancement Practitioner Training 2023!

Advancement Practitioner Training 2023!

Andrine Terry, Director of Philanthropy at Hale School in WA, attended the Advancement Practitioner Training in Melbourne this year. Andrine comes to fundraising from a career in physio, followed by a degree in art history and many years of grass roots volunteering in the community.

She commented that, “I can highly recommend this training to fundraisers at any stage of their professional journey. The insights gained have made me far more effective in my role and I have saved myself years of hard work by gaining the presenters’ expertise and IP. The real-life experience was so valuable and clarified where I need to head to elevate my own practice as a fundraising professional.”

Hale School held its first Giving Day this week and 460+ donors raised $800,000 to complete a $5M campaign, “Honouring the past, building the future”.

If you or your team needs this kind of training, please budget now so that your institution can reap the rewards.

How To Be A Leader No Matter What Your Role Is

There are certain roles that automatically lend themselves to leadership. For example, if you’re a manager responsible for supervising a team of 10, you can bet that there are going to be opportunities within your role to showcase your leadership skills (duh!).

But you don’t have to be in a managerial role to step up and show your leadership potential.

There are plenty of ways to be a leader at every stage of your career—no matter what your role, title, or job responsibilities might be.

But how, exactly, do you do that? Let’s take a look at how to be a leader—whatever your role might be.
