President’s Message

President’s Message

It might be an indication of age, but 2015 seems to have passed in a blur of activity! It has been an incredibly productive year for Educate Plus both nationally and in WA and the progress can be attributed to the passionate and enthusiastic involvement of its members and the considered governance of the Board and staff of Educate Plus.

We are enjoying record membership at the moment with a total of 1350 members and 177 members in WA, double what it was in 2012. New members bring energy and ideas and for the first time state schools and smaller schools in remote areas are joining us in greater numbers. The WA Chapter identified this need three years ago and have subsequently hosted Country PDs in Bunbury, Geraldton and will be going to Albany in October. It is wonderful to see the growth is these institutions and the desire to become part of the wider network.

I referred to the passionate leadership we have in Educate Plus and as the outgoing President of the WA Chapter, I wish to profoundly thank and acknowledge the national Board and the WA Executive Committee whose members work incredibly hard to support you and provide meaningful and relevant professional development and networking. This organisation is a volunteer body and it can only grow because individuals are prepared to invest in the members so generously by sharing their time and expertise. We all have demanding roles in our institutions so we can really appreciate the extra commitment that is made by these individuals. Thank you to each of you for the enormous value you contribute to our organisation.

In WA this year we held three Professional Development sessions, presented a magnificent Chapter Conference and hosted eight Special interest Groups which collectively involved 430 members.

We are constantly assessing what we offer and exploring the latest trends and issues so we would love to hear your feedback. Please could you assist us by completing the short survey ahead of our strategic planning in November. Please click here to complete the short survey

Thank you for the opportunity to lead this wonderful Chapter and I am immensely proud that WA has such a committed and hard-working membership and is in a strong position moving forward. It has been an absolute pleasure to represent you on the Board.

Go well

WA Chapter President

Certified Advancement Practitioner Training

In September, two of our WA Chapter members attended the Certified Practitioner Training from Wesley College.

Here is what Kelli Henning, Enrolments Manager had to say:

“It was a relevant, very well-presented and constructed program – the course content and supporting documentation issued to participants provided a formal framework to enable a forensic, evidence-based approach to the whole enrolment process; whilst highlighting the immensely important human element. The anecdotal contributions and idea generation from other participants must also be highlighted as noteworthy and of added value”.

The 2016 courses are planned for May in Sydney. Further details will be available on the website soon.

orange cross Admissions SIG

13 people attended the Admissions SIG, hosted by Hale School, with guest speakers, David Timmins, Director of Finance and Governance, and Ms Jo Tucker, School Nurse, both of Hale School, on 11 August 2015.

David outlined Hale School’s 48 million dollar turnover and explained how enrolments is the lifeblood of the school.

David listed his top 10 important features of admissions:

  • Legal
  • Risk management
  • Confidentiality
  • Marketing
  • Accuracy
  • Record keeping
  • Passion
  • Reliability
  • Sense of Humour

Jo spoke about immunisations and the schools discussed how this works at their institutions.

The schools also discussed their endowment fees, electronic record keeping, split families and the management of waitlists.

The next meeting will be hosted by Kelli Henning at Wesley College.

pink cross Fundraising SIG

Nine people attended the recent Fundraising SIG on 2 September, with speakers, John Forbes and Sharee Kinnaird (Tatu consulting).

At the Chapter conference, the need for a PD on Bequests was expressed and John and Sharee presented an in-depth workshop on running a Bequest program. A very detailed document was circulated and discussed which was followed by a Q and A style approach. Attendees were able to debate and engage with the experts and the content and learnings were excellent.

The group was very grateful to Tatu for travelling from Adelaide to present the workshop and to Perth College for hosting the SIG.

purple cross Marketing SIG

10 people attended the Marketing SIG, hosted by St Mary’s Anglican Girls’ School on 17 September 2015.

The group discussed school fairs and anniversary events, signage for Field Days, staffing and internships and advertising for 2016.

Various social media platforms including Youtube, Vimeo, LinkedIn and Facebook also formed a large part of the morning, with the group sharing details of how they schedule, staff and upload their posts.

It was also wonderful to meet members from such a diverse group of institutions. The next Marketing SIG will be held at Perth College in late February/early March.
