Director of Community Relations at Woodleigh School

What is your role at Woodleigh School?

I am the Director of Community Relations. In November, I’ll tick over 12 years in the role.

Motto or personal mantra?

“Keep on Truckin’…“

How has Educate Plus helped you in your career development?

It’s given me access to a network of generous, talented contemporaries who share ideas and strategy, provide invaluable feedback and are great fun at any event, be it PD or social.

What’s one thing you couldn’t live without?

Silliness. I’m not great at being too serious for too long.

Who has had the biggest impact on your career thus far and why?

Paul Turner was the Principal at Woodleigh School who hired me. He was also the Principal at Woodleigh when I graduated. He trusted his gut and took a punt on me as a 26 year old green-horn, handing me the reigns of Woodleigh’s brand and image. Had he not had the intestinal fortitude to make such a bold move, who knows where I’d be?

Favourite travel spot?

I’m a Prom boy, from the Peninsula, who loves sailing the Adriatic.

What’s the weirdest job you’ve ever had?

The weirdest job, and certainly the weirdest title I’ve ever had was ‘King of English-Only-Town’ at Solid Academy, Gwangju, South Korea. I taught English as a second language to students of all ages, kindergarten through to adults, for 12 months after I graduated from University. It was an amazing time.

How do you define success?

Success is a very personal construct. I think it’s very much aligned with what makes you happy and contented.

Tell us two things most people don’t know about you.

  1. Anyone who has seen what I drive to work would have a very hard time believing that I’m a rev head. But I am. I’ve got a 1960s Italian sports car which I save for weekends, and I wish I had room at home for more.
  2. I am a true design nerd.
