Marketing and Alumni SIG

Marketing and Alumni SIG

The QLD Chapter held their Marketing and Alumni SIG recently on February 25th at John Paul College. Thanks to all who attended this helpful and informative event.

Marketing SIG

Topic: Crisis Communications

The possibility that a school may face a crisis or negative experience that will impact your school’s reputation, is one we all need to be prepared for. Whether it is a case of COVID-19 that might lead to the evacuation of your school or an unhappy current or future family, that may create waves in the media, it is always good to be prepared.

SIG Feedback

From COVID-19 cases to Alumni opinions and reputation challenges, to negative parent voices, the Crisis Communications interactive SIG explored the wide array of issues that appear across our desks every day. Discussions ran deep as we explored how we prepare, respond and overcome crisis management and comms not only in the media but to the wider school community. We explored the variety of channels we use, and the effectiveness of them and how these channels should be managed. A fantastic SIG with great outcomes and discussions across a diverse group of people and schools.

Alumni SIG

Topic: What have you decided to keep (and not to keep) from 2020 & why?

The challenges of 2020 pushed Alumni groups into new territory, with many introducing new initiatives and technology with great success. Join with other Alumni practitioners in this show-and-tell session where we will discuss what learnings from 2020 will be harnessed this year and which will be left behind.

SIG Feedback

Facilitated by David Miles, Old Boys Manager at ‎Anglican Church Grammar School, this was a timely discussion as we commence the new school year. Representing a cross-section of the sector, the group shared their learnings from 2020 and the innovative (and often time-intensive) ways they engaged with their alumni during COVID. Aware of the current uncertainties the group is cautiously planning for the return of in-person reunions and ways to re-establish the connection between our alumni and current students. Thank you to our facilitator David, our host school John Paul College and the members who participated in this honest and informative session.
