{"id":23544,"date":"2026-09-11T14:21:13","date_gmt":"2026-09-11T04:21:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/domremy\/?post_type=article&#038;p=23544"},"modified":"2026-09-11T14:21:13","modified_gmt":"2026-09-11T04:21:13","slug":"national-child-protection-week-6-to-12-september-2026-shifting-conversations-into-action","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/domremy\/article\/national-child-protection-week-6-to-12-september-2026-shifting-conversations-into-action\/","title":{"rendered":"National Child Protection Week &#8211; 6 to 12 September 2026: Shifting Conversations into Action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Child Protection Week is an opportunity to recognise the important role parents and carers play in helping children feel safe, supported and valued.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This year\u2019s theme,<em> Shifting Conversations into Action<\/em>, encourages us to take practical steps that s<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">trengthen children\u2019s safety and wellbeing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Parents and carers can turn conversations into action by:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> listening to children and encouraging them to share their feelings<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> talking about what feeling safe and unsafe might look and feel like at home, at school, in the <\/span>community and online<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">helping children make a plan for what to do and who to speak to if they feel unsafe<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> involving children in family decisions and planning enjoyable time together<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> playing, reading, walking or sharing in activities that build connection<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> celebrating children\u2019s achievements, values and interests<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> modelling respectful and supportive relationships<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> reaching out to family, friends, health professionals or support services when help is needed<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> looking after their own wellbeing and taking time to recharge<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A helpful family conversation at the dinner table could include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> What was something positive that happened today?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> What did not go well today?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> What was the funniest thing that happened today?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Regular conversations help children know they can approach a trusted adult when something is worrying them. Parenting requires energy, patience, time and support. Asking for help is a sign of strength.
