Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) is used to solve the world&#8217;s biggest challenges. That is why jumping in, asking big questions, and taking an active part in finding solutions is so vital.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">This year\u2019s theme, &#8220;Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All,&#8221; is all about sparking curiosity, growing big ideas, and making science accessible to everyone. From hands-on experiments to exciting discoveries, there was something for every future scientist to explore.<\/div>\n<div dir=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Every activity in this year&#8217;s program was chosen with purpose, and seeing our students engage so enthusiastically was nothing short of inspiring. <a href=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image2-1.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-23380 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image2-1-300x189.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"189\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image2-1-300x189.png 300w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image2-1-238x150.png 238w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image2-1.png 646w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Here is a look back at the week that was:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Future You Film Festival:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> We began the week watching short clips highlighting women in real-world STEM careers, showing students that whatever you can imagine, you can become.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>ANU STEM &amp; Engineering Challenge:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Students discovered that engineering is built on resilience\u2014testing, failing, redesigning, and ultimately making things work.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Seeds of Science Incursion:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> We explored how Australian scientists test bold ideas to create inventions that improve daily life and protect our planet.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Homeroom Paper Airplane Challenge:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Experimenting with lift, drag, and flight paths using a single sheet of paper proved that scientific principles are at play all around us.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><a href=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image3-3.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-23379 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image3-3-236x300.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"236\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image3-3-236x300.png 236w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image3-3-807x1024.png 807w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image3-3-768x974.png 768w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image3-3-118x150.png 118w, https:\/\/d1dfwahqlx324v.cloudfront.net\/uploads\/sites\/58\/2026\/08\/image3-3.png 848w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 236px) 100vw, 236px\" \/><\/a>The absolute high point of the week was hearing from our guest speaker, <\/span><b>Dr. Renee Goreham<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> from the University of Newcastle. Dr. Renee is an extraordinary scientist working on a technology to detect cancer in its early stages through a breathalyser device.\u00a0 Her work is a powerful reminder that a career in STEM provides the power to change human lives.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">National Science Week may be over, but the mindset doesn&#8217;t end here.
