{"id":23282,"date":"2026-08-14T14:49:34","date_gmt":"2026-08-14T04:49:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/domremy\/?post_type=article&#038;p=23282"},"modified":"2026-08-14T14:49:34","modified_gmt":"2026-08-14T04:49:34","slug":"year-8-expand-their-horizons-at-the-meeting-of-the-minds-community-of-inquiry","status":"publish","type":"article","link":"https:\/\/www.thebuzz.net.au\/domremy\/article\/year-8-expand-their-horizons-at-the-meeting-of-the-minds-community-of-inquiry\/","title":{"rendered":"Year 8 Expand Their Horizons at the Meeting of the Minds Community of Inquiry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">On Tuesday, 11th August, a small group of Year 8 students headed to Newington College for Meeting of the Minds, an interactive day focused on philosophy, critical thinking, and collaborative debate alongside peers from neighbouring schools.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Working in a Community of Inquiry framework, students tackled big, real-world questions across four engaging sessions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Exploring \u2018Nowism\u2019: Students discussed present-versus-future priorities, debating questions like whether society owes a duty of care to future generations.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Moral Responsibility: After analysing a news stimulus on youth justice, pairs categorized scenarios into <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Blame<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> or <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Not Blame<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to establish criteria for moral accountability.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Navigating Dilemmas: Students identified how core principles clash (such as <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">honesty vs. loyalty<\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">) and created their own custom moral dilemma scenarios.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ranking Values: In joined sessions, groups constructed and shared dilemmas for peers to decipher, concluding with a workshop to rank which values should take priority when ethics conflict.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Congratulations to our Year 8 students for representing the school with intellectual rigor and exceptional listening skills.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mrs Lisa Ganderton, Leader of Inquiry and Enterprise<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday, 11th August, a small group of Year 8 students headed to Newington College for Meeting of the Minds, an interactive day focused on philosophy, critical thinking, and collaborative debate alongside peers from neighbouring schools.
