There was a sense of excitement as we welcomed back our returning students and extended a particularly warm Domremy welcome to our new Year 7 students and new students from Years 8 -12.

A Community Grounded in Faith and Respect

The morning began with a beautiful Acknowledgement of Country by Charlotte, followed by a moving prayer led by our Faith and Mission Prefect, Sandra, along with Marina and Olivia. We paused to invite Jesus into our journey this year, praying for our staff, our families, and especially for those who may feel uncertainty as they start this new chapter.

Our Principal, Mrs McGahan set a wonderful tone for the year ahead, emphasising that 2026 is a “fresh start” for everyone. She challenged our girls to build on past successes – to spread their wings and be a voice that leaves an echo.

Celebrating Our Leaders

A major highlight was the announcement of our 2026 Student Representative Council (SRC). It was a proud moment to see students from Years 8, 9, and 10 receive their badges. These young women have been chosen by their peers to be a “voice of truth” within our walls, and we look forward to the energy and leadership they will bring to their respective Houses.

The Big Reveal: “Together… our Light Shines Brighter…. Will you light your Lantern?”

The highlight of the assembly was when our Year 12 Leaders took the stage to launch our 2026 College Theme. After a creative video reveal (featuring a fun “Gossip Girl” twist!), the theme was officially unveiled:

“Together… our Light Shines Brighter.”

Inspired by the “Lady with the Lantern,” Venerable Nano Nagle, and the courage of St. Joan of Arc, this theme calls every student to “light their lantern.” Our leaders reminded us that while a single light can guide a step, many lights together illuminate the entire path. It is a call to action – “Not words, but deeds” – and a reminder that we are at our best when we support, encourage, and lift each other up.

Looking Ahead

As we settle into the rhythm of the school year, we encourage all parents to chat with their daughters about the assembly. Ask them: How will you light your lantern this year?

We are so blessed to have such a vibrant, dedicated community of young women.

Let’s make 2026 a year where our collective light shines truer and brighter than ever before!

Mrs Melissa Vassallo, Assistant Principal

The sun was shining on January 30, but the brightest light was found inside our College hall as we gathered for our first assembly of the year.
