But not all acts of saving are loud or visible.

Sometimes, saving a life looks like a group of teenage girls gathering at lunchtime in a quiet room, learning to knit and crochet with patience and purpose. It looks like a 90-year-old woman, living with fading memory, still contributing by crafting a single square. It looks like our Domremy students thoughtfully preparing sandwiches for someone they may never meet, giving quietly and generously.

At Domremy College, our Knitting Club and Vinnies Sandwich Making Afternoons are humble yet deeply meaningful acts of service and solidarity. Each stitch in a handmade blanket, each sandwich wrapped with care, speaks of compassion and dignity. These are not just meals or warm items – they are symbols of community and hope.

This week, we received feedback from the St Vincent de Paul Society, who reminded us that what we create and give can be life-saving. Our donations of scarves, beanies, blankets and sandwiches don’t just protect against the cold and hunger; they remind people they are seen and valued. These gifts say, “You matter. Someone took time to care for you.”

And as much as these acts bless others, they also enrich our students and staff. The Knitting Club and the Sandwich Making group have become a space of friendship, mentorship and shared purpose, a tapestry of compassion that strengthens the fabric of our school community.

We are so grateful to every student, staff member and volunteer who participates in these quiet, powerful ministries. You may not make the evening news, but you are changing lives.

NAPLAN and Academic Data

Individual NAPLAN student reports will be sent to schools in early Term 3 for distribution to families. These results, combined with data from the Academic Services Assessments in Years 6 and 8, give us a comprehensive view of student progress from pre-commencement through to Year 10, just prior to senior subject selection.

These assessments, aligned with NAPLAN Years 5, 7 and 9, provide strong evidence that literacy – particularly reading and writing – must remain a core priority.
