Wanago at UTS – 2023 Orientation

The UTS Wanago Program is a social justice initiative that aims to address STEM subject access inequalities in schools. Studies suggest that STEM skills will be required for 75% of jobs over the next decade and Wanago aims to prepare today’s students for the future demands of our nation’s workforce. Wanago was created to offer STEM subject opportunities for schools with populations that are underrepresented in STEM careers, such as students from low SES areas and female students. Next year’s cohort is striving towards gender equality by having a 50/50 split of male and female students. At the completion of their HSC course, Wanago graduates are offered direct entry into UTS’ Faculty of Engineering and IT undergraduate courses.

Last week, three of our Year 10 students attended the 2023 Wanago Orientation. Next year, as part of their HSC, Melyna and Jade will be enrolled in Engineering Studies and Chloe will study Software Design and Development. Each week, they will travel to the university where they will undertake classes, work with specialist equipment in labs and have opportunities to collaborate with experts and professionals in their chosen field. They are very excited to be able to take their chosen HSC course and have an early start to university life next year as Year 11 students.
