The Da Vinci Decathlon
Year 10 and 11 Domremy students took part in the Da Vinci Decathlon for the very first time this week. Firstly, they spent a day working together and getting to understand the nature of tasks by working through the 2024 and 2023 challenges. A week later, the teams travelled to Knox Grammar School to compete against over 150 teams from other schools all over NSW and the ACT.
The Da Vinci Decathlon is renowned for its rigorous academic competition across ten disciplines, testing students’ abilities in cartography, English, Art and Poetry, Mathematics, Science, Ideation, Creative Production, Engineering, Legacy and Code Breaking. This year’s theme, Light, was woven throughout the challenges, paying homage to the inventive genius of Leonardo da Vinci. Mave (Year 10) said, “ The Da Vinci Decathlon was a fun competition that enabled us to both challenge and test our skills in an exciting way. The day was challenging but engaging and pushed us in every category”.
We congratulate all participating students for pushing themselves out of their comfort zone and taking associated academic risks by being involved in this event. We particularly congratulate the Year 10 Team who placed 2nd in the Creative Producers challenge, most notably the performers, Emma, Maeve and Sofia. This is a wonderful achievement, especially in your first Decathlon!
It is through opportunities such as these that our students can truly stretch themselves as they work collaboratively with others to strive towards personal and collective excellence. It was wonderful to be involved in this event for the first time and we look forward to taking part again in the future.
