Thank you to our generous community and our VSM vollies

As part of our community service opportunities at the College, students have been engaging in sandwich making for St Vincent de Paul’s Night Patrol Vans who serve hundreds of people each night; people who are struggling or sleeping rough. We are called as Catholics to affirm the dignity of all members of our society and this vital service which Vinnies enables us towards helping those less fortunate. A huge thank you to Cristina Peros, our Social Justice Coordinator for organing this event, Courtney Lau, Sarah Bermingham and Melissa Alamango for supervision and assistance with Vinnies sandwich making. Thank you to all students (who have also completed their OnGuard training in order to take part), families and staff who donated items to make the sandwiches. This worthwhile cause makes a tangible difference in the lives of others, and your help is so appreciated.

A student reflection follows.

Today I had the chance to take part in my first Vinnies sandwich-making initiative at school, and it was truly unforgettable. We came together as a community to make sandwiches for those in need, supporting the incredible work of the St Vincent de Paul Society. It felt amazing to know that something so simple can make a real difference in someone’s day.

What made it even more special was the atmosphere with everyone chatting, laughing, and sharing stories while working side by side making it a great experience. It reminded me how powerful kindness and teamwork can be. I felt proud to be part of such a caring and generous group, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity.

I’ll definitely be doing it again. Helping others while connecting with my school community was such a rewarding experience. Tiana, Yr 11.
