NEAA Staff Conference 2023
Last week we had the privilege of attending the biannual Nagle Education Alliance of Australia (NEAA) Staff Conference. The theme of the conference, Honouring the past: Inspiring the future, allowed us to work within our Presentation communities throughout Australia, to explore the many ‘great works’ being undertaken across schools.
Of particular interest was the keynote address delivered by Professor Deirdre Raftery (University College Dublin, Ireland) who explored details about Nano Nagle’s life that helped to shine a light on how she managed to influence so many people in her lifetime. The keynote address explored how that influence continued, and how she left a legacy that can still be found around the globe today.
Moreover, in a time where wellbeing is at the forefront of education for both staff and students, we worked to build a shared and consistent understanding of what wellbeing is and how we can strengthen this in our schools. Through the keynote speaker Amy Green, founder of the Wellness Strategy, we had the opportunity to rethink what wellbeing is, to understand the difference between every day and workplace wellbeing needs, and to demystify any misconceptions or misunderstandings that may exist.
Upon our return we will share our learning with teachers and students at Domremy College in an effort to continue nourishing our rich charism founded in Presentation values of simplicity, compassion and service.
