Mother’s Day Liturgy and Breakfast

Mother’s Day Liturgy and Breakfast

The month of May within our Catholic tradition provides us with an opportunity to give thanks to our Good Mother Mary. Mary puts her complete trust in the presence of God in her life. When she says ‘YES’ to God’s call. “Mary’s encounter with the angel Gabriel actually strengthens her. For the Annunciation story is all about divine love as the source of empowerment…The Annunciation story then is about a self-possessed, self-focussed and self-conscious poor young woman who finds favour with God and is willing to cooperate with a wild plan of salvation. It is about a woman strong enough to risk believing something incredible about herself: the Lord is with you” (Sebastian Moore, 2021).

Mary, Our Good Mother Prayer

Mother of Jesus and Mother of the Church,

walk with us now, sharing our joys and sorrows, our successes and failures.

In our daily lives, show us your Son, who lives in us.

Help us to listen to Him,

to act on His Word and do our part in

building the kingdom of justice and peace.

May we be all united in the fullness of His Kingdom forever.

Amen.

Venerable Nano Nagle, Pray for us.

It was wonderful to see so many Mother’s, Grandmother’s, Aunty’s and very special women in our community gathered for our Mother’s Day Mass and Breakfast this week. One day does not seem enough to say thank you for all the special things they do each and every day. The special women in our lives always walk beside us, encourage us and motivate us to do our best, which helps us to push the limits so we can achieve great things. We are inspired by these special women’s faith, dedication and commitment to us each and every day. Pope Francis reflected on the important role that our mothers play in our lives by saying:

“Mothers are indispensable to society and the church, showing the world what it means to
generously give oneself for others, to respect life and to display tenderness and moral strength
even in times of trouble”

(Pope Francis – Vatican City — January 7, 2015)
