Merry Christmas from The Study Hub
What a year it has been in The Study Hub in 2025!
From our Writer In Residence, Dr Sarah Ayoub, who helped our students to hone and refine their creative writing skills to the Combined Schools Book Club where we welcomed students from Trinity Grammar, St Patrick’s Strathfield, St Vincent’s College Ashfield, and Christian Brothers Lewisham.
Our Year 10 students wrote a digital book to raise money for the Kids’ Cancer Project whilst Year 9 students took part in Shadow Judging for the CBCA Book of the Year Awards.
Year 7 students kicked off the year by taking part in the Kids’ Lit Quiz 2025.
These were just a few examples of what was on offer in The Study Hub this year.
As we wrap up the Year I would like to remind you to encourage the reading habit in your teen over the Christmas holiday. Reading is essential for wellbeing and critical thinking and empathy skills. There is no better way to chill and enjoy a summer break!!
Here are a few suggestions of some books students might want to try:
- A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder — A gripping YA mystery that keeps you guessing. Great if you like suspense, investigation, and secrets.
- We Were Liars — A psychological YA thriller with twists, intense friendships, and emotional depth — perfect for teens ready to think about moral choices and consequences.
- It’s Not Summer Without You — Light, emotional romantic drama — ideal for a relaxed summer read with feelings, friendships and first loves.
- The Summer I Turned Pretty — A beach-summer YA classic about love, growth and change — great for warm, breezy holiday reading.
- If He Had Been with Me — A heartfelt coming-of-age/romance story about what happens when timing and feelings don’t align — thoughtful and emotional.
- The Summer I Turned Pretty Collection Box Set — If you enjoy the first book, this box set lets you binge the whole trilogy over the holidays.
- All the Light We Cannot See — A more mature, literary read that deals with war, survival, hope and human connection — powerful for older teens who like deeper stories.
- Sunrise On The Reaping — A dystopian, action-packed pick (prequel to a well-known series) — great for fans of thrillers, world-building and dramatic stakes.
Merry Christmas from the Study Hub!
