Harmony Day: benefitting Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion

Last Friday 21 March, Domremy College celebrated Harmony Day. The day began as students were welcomed by the Year 12 Leadership Team with orange ribbons at the gate and a “Happy Harmony Day” sign written in bright orange chalk throughout the circular drive. To further embrace the day, the whole College Assembly featured two cultural performances and an acknowledgement towards the true meaning of Harmony Day as well as the objectives of Caritas Australia’s Project Compassion.

I want to say a big thank you and congratulations to Bianca and Lana who performed an incredible duo act of the song ‘Cesarica’ by renowned Croatian singer Oliver Dragojevic, as well as Janice who performed ‘Eyes, Nose, Lips’ by Korean artist Taeyang.

As the day continued through to lunch, we celebrated with a bake sale outside the Solais building where we served a range of traditional cultural cuisines to students. It was so successful that not a crumb was left over, raising just shy of $500 for Project Compassion. Thanks to Ms Angilletta’s loudspeaker we were able to entertain the girls who sat in the Brenda Quinn Hall whilst they set out a picnic with their friends and enjoyed their cultural delights. This moment undoubtedly fostered a sense of community as the girls began to dance and sing with their friends, truly embracing the spirit of Harmony Day.

All in all, the day was a great success, and a big thank you to Mrs Vari, Mrs Silva and Mrs Vassallo for helping so that the day ran so smoothly, as well as to all other students who assisted throughout the day, the turn-out was indeed excellent.
