Prayer

The Third Week of Lent

God of infinite love,

We thank you for this reminder of your love

and your call that we be more patient,

gentle and compassionate with others.

Here in the middle of Lent,

We turn to you to beg for your help.

Please soften our hearts.

Help us to let go of judging others.

We ask you this, in Jesus’ name.

May the Lord bless us,

protect us from all evil

and bring us to everlasting life. Amen

Learning and Wellbeing Framework

At Domremy, our Learning and Wellbeing Framework seamlessly integrates our vision for learning with wellbeing, recognizing their inherent synergy. We believe that learning is not only continuous but also future-oriented, serving as the foundation for authentic teaching and learning experiences. According to Duignan (2007), authentic teaching and learning are moral endeavors, fostering a deeper understanding of life’s purpose and encouraging contributions to society’s greater good.

Our pedagogical approach emphasizes knowledge construction, profound inquiry, and real-world applicability. Grounded in student-centeredness and moral principles, authentic teaching and learning at Domremy aims to instill values and ignite a passion for lifelong learning.

Our framework promotes deep student engagement and sets high expectations, fostering critical thinking and connections to real-world contexts. Through explicit teaching methods, we empower students to reflect deeply and embrace a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.

In recent years, Domremy has pioneered innovative curriculum delivery and authentic assessment methods, challenging students to excel in their learning journey. Cross-curricular projects and authentic assessments across all Key Learning Areas (KLAs) underscore our commitment to academic rigor and holistic development.

The hallmark of our Learning and Wellbeing Framework is the cultivation of independent and critical thinkers who actively engage with the world around them. Our students emerge as responsible, respectful, and resilient individuals, striving for personal excellence in all endeavors.

Parents’ Social Evening

Many thanks to all those parents who were able to join us last Friday evening. The event was well attended and enjoyed by all those present and it was a very relaxed evening during which we all enjoyed each other’s company. We hope this is the first of many social events.

Swimming Carnival

College Swimming Carnival - Domremy Newsletter

Today we had our annual Swimming Carnival at Ryde Aquatic Leisure Centre, which was so well received by all those present. This event brings much excitement and enthusiasm from the girls whilst having lots of fun. I am always most impressed by the way our girls conduct themselves whether it be in their performance or in their participation. I congratulate them on the wonderful sense of community spirit they generate on such days.

Much organisation, preparation and coordination are involved on these days, and as such thanks and appreciation to Ms Rina Angilletta, Ms Nicole Kanis, and the PDHPE staff for their leadership and dedication on the day. Many thanks is extended to all the staff for their generosity and team effort which contributed to making the Carnival a great success. I would also like to thank those parents and friends who were able to join us.

In our next issue a more detailed overview and photos of the Carnival from our Sports Coordinator will be included.

Open Day

Our enrolment season has begun. Members of the College Leadership Team and I have been quite busy visiting our many feeder primary schools which will continue during the course of this week as well. Senior Student Leaders and Year 8 students attend these representing our College beautifully as they share their experiences and enormous pride for their school. I extend my thanks and gratitude to the College Leadership Team and students who have volunteered to be involved.

The main purpose of our visits is to speak to girls in Years 3, 4 & 5 and invite them to our upcoming College Open Day. As I am sure you are aware, this is being held next Sunday 10 March from 11am to 3pm. Although the day is targeted for new enrolments for 2026 and beyond, you are also invited to come along to see the innovative and educational programs we offer at Domremy.

We thank the parents who have volunteered to assist with the sausage sizzle on Sunday and would welcome some more assistance if possible. If you can help, please contact Donna Malpass, Mrs McGahan’s Executive Assistant, at donna.malpass@syd.catholic.edu.au

We will be conducting College Tours throughout the year together with our Try Domremy for a Day program for primary students in Year 4, 5 and 6. All these are advertised on our website and through social media. We will advertise dates for both College Tours and Try Domremy for a Day following Open Day.

On a final note…

It was encouraging to see so many parents at our Parent Information Evenings held early this term. We believe it is important for all parents to attend these evenings as a way for us to continue working together in partnership in providing the best opportunities for your daughters. It also builds positive relationships and connections within our community based on respect, responsibility and resilience.

Many thanks to the staff who organised, prepared and attended the many events we have held so far this year. We thank them for their generosity and goodwill in making these occasions successful and worthwhile.

I thank you for your continued cooperation and support.

Blessings on you and your families,

Antoinette McGahan
