From the Leader of Learning and Teaching: Year 7 Learn to Learn Program
Building Academic Confidence Through Backward Mapping
Year 7 students have engaged with the Learn to Learn program this week, focusing on essential academic skills to support their transition to high school. As part of this program, students attended a session on the backward mapping of assessment tasks, an important planning tool designed to set them up for success. Through guided modelling, students learned how to break down their first English and History assessment tasks into manageable steps, working backward from the due date to plan their study and revision effectively. Students were guided through this step-by-step guide to breaking down research assessment tasks into manageable parts.
This process not only supports the development of strong time management and organisational skills but also helps students gain a clearer understanding of what is required for success in each part of the task. By embedding these habits early in the year, students are actively developing the tools they need to manage their workload with confidence and work towards their personal best.
