Five Dock RSL Anzac Initiative Competition and Awards Ceremony – Tuesday 6 May
At the end of Term 1, a group of Year 9 students entered the Five Dock RSL ANZAC Initiative Competition. This annual event provides students with an opportunity to engage meaningfully with Australia’s wartime history and to reflect on the values of service, sacrifice and national pride.
Participants submitted a variety of creative and thoughtful entries, including artworks and poetry that explored the significance of the ANZACs and its continued impact and relevance today. The quality of submissions was exceptional, with students demonstrating deep historical understanding and a strong personal connection to the stories of those who served, some utilising real soldiers’ testimonies from the Anzac Portal website (The Department of Veterans’ Affairs).
On Tuesday 6 May, the students who were successful won an award for their entries and attended a ceremony and morning tea, held at the Five Dock RSL, with students, families and local community members gathered to honour the achievements of the entrants.
We congratulate all students who took part in the competition and thank the Five Dock RSL for their continued support in promoting historical awareness and community involvement among young people.
Special Congratulations to the award recipients from Year 9:
Henrietta – 1st Place (Artwork)
Vianna – 2nd Place (Poetry)
Vittoria (Artwork) and Ruby J (Poetry) – Merit Awards
We hope to have even more entries across all year groups in 2026.
