Dragon Boating – Isabella’s State and Australian Team selections – WOW!

Congratulations to Isabella Taranto, (Year 10), on her selection for both the NSW and Australian teams for Dragon Boating. This is such exciting news and both are outstanding achievements for Isabella.

Isabella, who currently paddles 4 times a week and trains in the gym, recently received the news that she had made the state team for Dragon Boating and will be competing in April.

Isabella also attended tryouts for the Australian Junior team which were held at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra earlier this month. This was an amazing experience for Isabella and her father, where she was among only 55 of the most elite young dragon boating athletes nationwide.

Isabella has just this week also received the very exciting news from The Australian Dragon Boat Federation, of her successful selection to the Junior Auroras Dragon Boat Team, U16, which will be competing at the 16th World Dragon Boat Championship in Pattaya, Thailand in August this year. The selectors were very impressed with Isabella’s ability to focus and her good technique, both clearly essential in the sport.

Well done Isabella! Her selection is accompanied by a training and competition regimen which is sure to keep her busy, including her continued paddling sessions per week and cardio and resistance sessions, an expectation that she will compete both for her home club and her state, weekly training schedules provided to the national coaches, availability for camps in April and June, an acclimatisation camp in Thailand prior to the Championship and virtual education sessions.

Having made it this far and having demonstrated what she is capable to reach these goals which she set herself, we have every confidence that Isabella is up for it and Domremy is behind her all the way!

Domremy is also very fortunate to have the State Coach, Mary Weaver, working with us on Thursdays during ASP, coaching our Dragon Boating teams.

We wish Isabella all the best with all her training and for when she competes at both the State level in April and the National Level in August. We look forward to hearing about her experiences and teams’ performances as the year progresses.
