Class of 2025: School Captains’ Celebratory Dinner in the NSW Parliament

On 10 September, our 2025 College Captain, Olivia Azzi and our College Vice-Captains,Jessica De Freitas and Sophia Pollicina, attended a celebratory dinner in the NSW Parliament with other graduating school captains and school principals, at the invitation of the Member for Drummoyne, and Domremy College alumna (Class of 2013), Ms Stephanie Di Pasqua, MP.

We are grateful to Ms Di Pasqua for the opportunity offered to gather with principals and other graduating school captains from Concord High School, Rosebank College and McDonald College to reflect on the importance of leadership. Thank you to Ms Di Pasqua for the wonderful behind the scenes tour of NSW Parliament, followed by dinner in the Speakers Dining Room. It was an unforgettable experience for our students.

Ms Di Pasqua congratulated both the schools and the outgoing leaders from her Drummoyne Electorate in the Legislative Assembly on 9 September. This can be found in the following excerpt from the transcript of Hansard: Hansard – NSW Parliament Legislative Assembly – 9 September 2025

College Vice Captain, Sophia Pollicina provides a reflection below.

Mrs Melissa Vassallo, Assistant Principal

On 10 September, Olivia (School Captain), Jessica (Vice Captain) and I , accompanied by Mrs Vassallo, our College Assistant Principal, were invited to the NSW Parliament by Stephanie Di Pasqua, Member for Drummoyne, for a celebratory acknowledgement of our time as student leaders. We had the honour of being one of a few local schools across the Drummoyne electorate to receive this incredible experience, thanks to the Honourable Stephanie, who provided us with a tour of Parliament, following a celebration dinner. We were privileged to have a tour around the Parliament, gaining insight into its history and traditions. We listened to valuable talks by other members of Parliament, who passed on their knowledge and experiences to us. We also had the opportunity to witness firsthand the Legislative Council, giving us the chance to see real life debates and discussions impacting the state, and observing the process to better understand the responsibilities of our elected representatives. The Legislative Assembly also allowed us to witness speeches from members representing their smaller geographic district, helping us reflect on the diverse roles of the two chambers. This really deepened my interest in public affairs and inspired me to be more involved and take action on political and community life, to make a difference in society. After this, we had the opportunity to accompany Stephanie, and other school leaders and teachers to a dining room experience where we shared discussion on future goals and questions we always wanted to ask a Politician, to which Stephanie provided insightful responses. We shared a delicious main meal and dessert with each other, and were then granted certificates of leadership, while having the pleasure of being recognised in Parliament during Stephanie’s speech for our role as student leaders, for which we are sincerely grateful. We thank Stephanie Di Pasqua for this once in a lifetime opportunity, and myself and my fellow leaders were truly inspired and appreciative of this honour, as a last time event to celebrate our time as Domremy’s leaders.
