Assembly for the Feast Day of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Our whole school assembly on Friday 22 November, was the perfect culmination of past, present and future at Domremy College.
Mr Ryan spoke of the increased student numbers and the need for two new Houses to be introduced in 2025. With this in mind, students have been given an opportunity to name the new Houses aligning with a strong, Catholic woman of faith, ascribe to the new Houses values, and assign a colour. Students have also been given the opportunity to be pioneers in the new Houses and request a move to one of the new Houses.
As we looked to the future at Domremy, we very much grounded our Assembly in our Presentation charism by celebrating the Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is celebrated on 21 November. This celebration of Mary saying “Yes” to God is a driving force behind our own charism with the Presentation Sisters, modelling how to say ‘yes’ in the modern world through their social justice work, their work with the United Nations and Development Goals, and the ‘yes’ to educate young women on this site some one hundred plus years ago.
Of course, the Assembly also celebrated all that is good in our school with students receiving plaudits for:
- Write A Book In A Day – a social justice literacy project aimed at writing a book to be read by sick children in hospitals
- Ethics Olympiad – students engage in deep conversations and thought about a range of ethical issues with schools from around the globe
- Catechists Program – the outreach volunteers from our school, ministering to Five Dock Public School each week
- History Challenge – examining significant events and creating a piece of work to demonstrate a strong understanding
- Tournament of the Minds and Meeting of the Minds – two competitions where students test themselves in a range of philosophical discussions with other schools
Congratulations to both our wonderful staff who offer these amazing opportunities to our students and to our wonderful students who embrace such opportunities.
Mr Matthew Ryan, Assistant Principal
