‘The Formal’ : a play by Year 10 Drama

On 25 and 27 October, the Year 10 Drama class staged and performed a play called The Formal, by Sue Murray, a fun, very relatable play for our students and staff. We had been working on the production since Term 3. 

The Formal is a play about six students going through the preparation and the events of the Year 12 Formal and the drama that goes with it. The dresses, the dates, the hair and the pre’s. We really enjoyed this experience as it allowed us to showcase for our family and friends what we have been learning in Drama for the past two years.

Not only did we perform, we were also the producers and designers. We designed the backdrops, costumes, lighting, program, we ran the publicity with posters scattered through the school and also did all of the Stage Managing. The process of rehearsing and performing was something we all really enjoyed.

‘Being able to not only be included in the play but the production element as well, made it a really enjoyable experience – I also worked  alongside my friends to create a promotional Instagram account.’ – Cassidy
