2022 College Captain and Vice Captain Farewell Speeches – Whole School Assembly

College Captain and Vice Captains’ Speech – Whole School Farewell Assembly

Good morning Ms McGahan, Mr Ryan, Staff and Girls,

It is a very strange feeling knowing this is my last time addressing you all as College Captain.

I would like to thank you all, for making the Domremy we know, into the community it is. Each and every one of you make up the community that we have called our own for the last six years. We will miss the girls we are leaving behind in our Homerooms, the girls we smile at as we walk past them on our way to class, or awkwardly make eye contact with in the bathroom mirror.

I would also like to thank you for allowing me to be your Captain. It has been a privilege to be the Captain of such an incredible school, which has meant so much to me. I have no doubt that you are being left in the very capable hands of Zara, Monique, Deborah and the rest of the incoming leadership team. With this, it’s only necessary to thank this year’s leadership team. Girls, I could not have asked for a better group to lead alongside. Your passion and determination to better the school has constantly inspired me. I will miss our fortnightly meetings and getting literally hundreds of notifications from our group chat. You should all be so proud of yourselves and what we have achieved as a team. – Emily Fernandez, College Captain

Together we introduced this year’s theme, “Shine your light through our Kaleidoscope”, and as a grade, we embraced this theme wholeheartedly. It helped to remind us that when we each contribute our lights – our passions, talents and enthusiasm, and show active participation and care for one another – the kaleidoscope that is the Domremy community beams and the light shines true.

When writing this speech, it really made us reflect on our years here at the College, and it was unanimous that it is impossible to accurately put into words how grateful we are for all the memories we have created here. The memories which we have made here are instilled in our hearts and minds. It feels like just yesterday that we were in Year 8 making up dances in P.E, or making toys in tech, or in Year 9 having one whole night away at camp and making Christmas cards in class, or in Year 10 and 11 when we experienced what it’s like to be homeschooled for the first time. What seems like trivial moments in time were actually the memories that we hold the fondest, and we are forever grateful for those little moments that make up this big moment right here, at the end of our high school journey.Isabella Palamara, College Vice Captain

We have all worked so hard throughout our years of schooling and there’s only such a little time left. Year 12, congratulations on all of your successes, let’s keep pushing through it and smash through these last exams together. You have been an incredible year group, and we are so grateful to have had you all by our sides throughout our high school years.

To the teachers and staff, thank you for putting up with us for the last six years, it is truly commendable, even though in a completely unbiased manner, we think were the best year group to have. We would have been lost without you all, especially in this final stretch of our schooling journey. Your constant support and confidence in each of us, and the dedication to every lesson, goes to show how much you care, and we really appreciate it. Thanks for not judging us when we’d hand you our exams that were wet with our tears, (Hmhm Mr Capizzi), and for helping us move on from our minor setbacks. A very special thank you to Ms Maoudis, our Year Coordinator, who has worked tirelessly to make our last year at the College so special. Finally, a big thank you to Mrs McGahan, for her constant motivation and encouragement to be the best that we can be. Thank you for your continued support and efforts throughout the years to make Domremy a nurturing environment for us to grow in.

And with that, we’d like to leave you with some wise words from Mr Troy Bolton (aka Zac Effron) – Domremy College is having friends we’ll keep for the rest of our lives, and that means we really are ‘all in this together’.

So, as ‘High School Musical’ taught us …  – Veronica Apap, College Vice Captain

Once a Domremy girl, always a Domremy girl! – Emily, Isabella, Veronica
