CSDA Debating Grand Finalists

On behalf of the 7B Domremy Debating team, I would like to update the College community on our recent journey to reach the Grand Final of the CSDA Debating Competition. On 15 October, as the competition resumed through the zoom format, we successfully competed against St Luke’s College in the Quarter Final on the topic ‘We are too focused on buying things.’  We worked hard in training sessions to apply feedback from the adjudicator and a growth mindset to prepare for our Semi-Final against Our Lady of Mercy College Parramatta, where we debated on whether words were stronger than weapons.  We were thrilled to win this debate and be able to compete against OLMC’s other team in the Grand Final. Before the debate, we were surprised by a really special card from Bianca Lalic, the outgoing Debating Prefect, and all the students on the other Domremy Debating teams.  This was a very close debate that we just missed out on winning, as we discussed the topic ‘Young people today have it better than their parents.’ Our team agrees that this has been such a fun and educational journey.

It has truly been a privilege to represent the College and develop invaluable skills like public speaking, critical thinking, and speech writing.  We wish to thank Mrs. McGahan and Mr. Ryan for their ongoing encouragement and support as well as Ms. Rombola and Ms. Atkins.  We look forward to the 2022 Debating season.
