College Assembly: Celebrating International Women’s Day, Diversity and Community
Our recent College Assembly was a powerful reflection on the values that define us at Domremy. From honouring the global achievements of women to launching our Lenten and Harmony Day initiatives, the session reminded us that “together our light shines brighter.”
International Women’s Day
On Sunday, 8 March, we join the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day. This year, our focus is twofold:
- “Give To Gain”: A call for collaborative action and resource sharing to support women.
- “Balance the Scales”: An urgent focus on gender justice and dismantling systemic barriers to create a safer, fairer world for all girls and women.
In a sea of purple ribbons—symbolising justice and dignity—students were invited to contribute to the Affirmation Wall in the Plaza, sparking positive dialogue and uplifting our peers. We also reflected on the legacy of leaders like Jacinda Ardern, who proved that leadership is defined by empathy, integrity, and humanity.
We were incredibly honoured to welcome Zoe Karatzovalis to the stage. Zoe is a professional dancer and the visionary founder of Infinite Abilities Performing Arts Dance School.
Zoe’s journey is a testament to the power of “blending passions.” By combining her love for dance with disability support, she has created an award-winning space for inclusivity. Zoe was the recipient of the 2025 Best Performing Arts School Award (Sutherland Shire Local Business Awards). She has worked with The Wiggles and appeared on Studio 10 and The Today Show.
Her address left our community inspired to pursue their dreams with tenacity and heart.
Lent 2026: Unite Against Poverty
As we journey through the Lenten season, our focus turns to prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Partnering with Caritas Project Compassion, our theme for 2026 is “Unite Against Poverty.”
Our Year 12 leaders reminded the students of the ways in which they are able to get involved through donations to our project compassion boxes which are located in every homeroom, along with our new initiative where students can place 10c bottles/cans in their Colour House bins near the Sports Coordinator’s office. The winning House earns points, and all funds go to Project Compassion. In addition, all members of the community are encouraged to join our weekly Rosary and Bible study groups to grow closer to God.
Harmony Day: Everyone Belongs
On Friday 20 March, Domremy will burst into colour for Harmony Day. This is our time to celebrate the diverse cultural threads that make our College such a vibrant tapestry. Our theme for the day is “Together our light shines brighter.” Students are asked to wear their cultural attire or orange for a gold coin Mufti Day donation. During lunchtime on this day we will host a Cultural Showcase in the Brenda Quinn Hall! Whether it’s dance, song, or a traditional display, we want to see your culture shine.
We are truly blessed to belong to such a faithful and hope filled community and our assembly truly reflected the Domremy spirit that is alive and well.
