Year 9 Activities Week

Year 9 Activities Week

We kicked off the week with a powerful performance by Brainstorm Productions titled Verbal Combat. This session wasn’t just about watching a play; it served as a catalyst for vital discussions on conflict resolution and empathy. Students explored the complexities of social dynamics and gained a deeper understanding of the hidden struggles people face “behind closed doors.” It was a day of building emotional intelligence and learning how to navigate relationships with kindness.

On Tuesday, the cohort traveled off-site to The Holy Name of Mary Hall for the Year 9 Reflection Day. In the peacefulness of this sacred space, students worked in small groups led by staff members to navigate a symbolic “journey.” Through guided activities and shared stories, they took the time to look inward, reflecting on their values and their roles within our community.

The energy shifted to high gear as we headed to Somerset for our school camp. The bushland became our classroom as students tackled a range of exhilarating challenges, including:

  • Kayaking and Rafting: Testing teamwork and coordination on the water.
  • Archery: Developing focus and precision.
  • Giant Ladder Climbs: Overcoming fears and reaching new heights.

Beyond the physical thrills, the heart of the camp was the culinary camaraderie. Our young chefs took charge during the β€œMy Kampsite Rules” challenge, preparing wood fire pizzas, hearty baked breakfasts, and a communal share picnic lunch. Watching students cook for and serve one another was a true highlight of the week.

This week was more than just a break from the classroom; both staff and students enjoyed a rare opportunity to bond in ways that only a camp setting allows. Many of our students stepped outside their comfort zones to try activities they may never have encountered otherwise.

As we look back, this was the perfect way to conclude a massive year of milestones, learning, and growth. We are incredibly proud of the resilience and enthusiasm the Year 9s displayed, and we look forward to seeing them carry these new friendships and lessons into the year ahead.
