Year 11 Geography Blue Mountains Field Trip
On Thursday 8 May, the Year 11 Geography class headed for an overnight trip to the Blue Mountains where we enjoyed two action packed days of adventure and fun to study the natural environment of the area and how it copes with frequent bushfires.
It was great to be able to learn in the field, an integral part of studying Geography, helping us to connect what we’ve been learning in class to real life. It was a great way to see nature in action and see such breathtaking views we have never experienced before.
Over the course of the two big days, we were fortunate to be guided by Olivia and Victoria from the Blue Mountains National Parks and Wildlife Service, who’s enthusiasm and range of interesting facts greatly enhanced our experience. Their engaging energy and informative talks not only made the trip more enjoyable, but was also beneficial to the preparation of our upcoming assessment task
Most importantly, however, they deepened our understanding of the National Park’s significance, its rich history, and the unique flora and fauna that inhabits its diverse forest types. We hiked through the Blue Mountains National Park and the stunning Grand Canyon track, giving the class the opportunity to see waterfalls, the incredible ecosystems that have formed over thousands of years, and landscapes so vast and large. This was definitely the highlight. The views were incredible! Truly an experience that is unforgettable.
We also had free time to explore the town of Katoomba, check out some unique local shops and antiques, and enjoy some food from the amazing cafes. During this free time we were fortunate to see the Three Sisters, an incredible site to see that truly made the trip even more memorable.
It was such a fun and valuable experience, not just for our upcoming assessment, but for the memories made with our classmates and the extraordinary dive into nature’s beauty.
We would like to thank Mr Sciortino and Mrs Smit for organising the trip, driving the bus to the Blue Mountains and supervising us for the night. It was a great experience and we definitely will never forget it.
