Year 9 and Year 10 Qantas Excursion

Year 9 and Year 10 Qantas Excursion

A select group of Year 9 and Year 10 students attended an excursion to the Qantas headquarters in Mascot on Thursday 13 March 2025.

The excursion was based on The Future of Long Haul Flight.  Students were given several challenges faced by Qantas in delivering a positive experience to passengers undertaking long haul flights.  These include, reinventing the suitcase, designing a new boarding pass, a better way for passengers to sleep, redesigning seat-back entertainment, and the well-being of passengers before, during and after the flight.

The program included a tour of the cabin staff training facility, with a mock-up of seating arrangements for First Class, Business Class and Economy passengers, as well as a galley kitchen.

This excursion allowed students to experience working collaboratively in a real-world environment to solve actual problems faced by the airline.

I would like to thank Ms Sarah Thompson for organising this worthwhile event for the students.

Student review

Recently, myself and 5 other Domremy students ranging from Year 9 to Year 10, had the incredible opportunity to visit Qantas Headquarters. This was a genuinely fun experience, as we spent the day brainstorming innovative ways to make long flights more entertaining after learning about Project Sunrise, Qantas’s groundbreaking initiative to revolutionize ultra-long-haul flights. The workers and teachers really wanted us to think outside of the box and encourage us to be creative. Overall, the excursion was a mix of education and creativity, allowing students to learn a lot about the behind-the-scenes of flights and having first hand experiences behind the aviation industry.(- Jana)
