From the Study Hub – Combined Schools Book Club

What an event the Combined Schools Book Club was!!

We welcomed students from St Patrick’s College, Strathfield,  and St Vincent’s College, Ashfield, to our inaugural occasion on Tuesday this week!

Students got to meet like minded students from these schools who also have a passion for reading and the best sellers in fiction.

Students heard from Paul McDonald (founder of the Childrens’ Bookshop, Children’s Book Council Awards judge and former teacher) about the best current reads on offer! Paul showcased the latest Young Adult Fiction and spoke about trends in literature.

Students then got the opportunity to enjoy morning tea and then engaged in discussion about the Dystopian genre so popular amongst Teens.

One Domremy student was overheard saying, “I’ve got so many books I need to read now!”

A student talking about Paul McDonald’s presentation said, He is the best person to go to to talk about books. He knew almost every single book we recommended! What I really enjoyed about the book club was the amount of books that Paul suggested. I have so many books now that I want to read! I also loved how he introduced multiple genres of books, and told us what types were popular and which ones were not. This was very helpful, it helped me expand my view on books and reading entirely, and gave me a few facts to think about too! I hope other people decide to join Book Club in the future too!” (Alice, Year 7)
