Year 7 Camp Yarramundi

Year 7 had a fantastic week at Camp Yarramundi. The three days we spent there were full of fun challenges and friendships. I am extremely proud of them and enjoyed seeing them grow in confidence, connection and resilience. Below are their camp reflections in their own words.

Ms Anita Rombola, Year 7 Coordinator

“My camp experience was like a coin. It had two sides;
at the beginning I was really scared, but when we left I felt like I couldn’t leave.” – Allegra P

Camp was a great experience for our whole year, we learned many skills such as building trust, teamwork and stepping out of our comfort zones to try things we may not have done before. As well as the activities, we also created friendships with not only people in our cabins but also the people in our activity groups. The Instructors were really kind, they didn’t make anyone do anything that they felt uncomfortable with but instead supported us. The evening activities were a blast as well as hanging out with our friends. All together, camp was a great experience and we created memories that will be hard to forget. – Lily C

I liked the big swing because it took me out of my comfort zone. I could also say the same thing about the flying fox. I got to learn new things and meet new people. I enjoyed watching Ms Rombola do the big swing as I got to pull her up and let her go. My favourite activity was rock climbing as I did it in the rain and learnt to trust my year group. – Lily G

To start off, camp was definitely an adventurous and learning experience for me. Beginning with all the variety of different fun and enjoyable activities that I got to experience such as the giant swing, flying fox, rock climbing, archery, alpine rescue, orienteering and initiatives. These activities all helped me to gain self-confidence, teamwork, leadership skills and independence. – Emily R

I really loved camp, it was a super fun experience, my instructor for the activity group was funny, welcoming and made everything fun. It felt like a huge sleepover with the entire year group and it was really nice to interact with girls I didn’t usually speak to before but now I’m really close with. – Jacinta G

I had a great time at Camp Yarramundi. It was a great experience. The food was extremely good and the activities were so fun! After dinner we played trivia and the second night we watched a movie and played games (that got intense very quickly!). Overall it was a good experience and I loved interacting with all the new girls in the year! – Sienna A

The positive thing in the cabin was that we communicated with other people, everyone was generous to each other and everyone in my cabin was respectful to one another. – Azra T

At camp I had an amazing time. I had the opportunity to go out of my comfort zone if I wanted to, I got to bond with my friends and learn new things. The highlight was the giant swing: I went all the way to the top and waited in anticipation for the all clear to pull the rope that would release me into the air swinging with only a harness. Camp was an amazing experience and I thoroughly enjoyed it.Sienna W

The Year 7 camp was a very entertaining and thrilling experience. We participated in many enjoyable activities that had us laughing and screaming and the instructors there were very supportive and helpful.Crystal

Camp was a great experience. It was a special opportunity to make new friends and bond with all of Year 7. We were given opportunities to learn and grow from each other. We got to participate in a range of activities such as the giant swing, rock climbing, and team-building exercises. Overall, it was a great memory that I will always cherish.- Olivia C

Camp was an enjoyable and new experience. I especially enjoyed the giant swing which was very fun, despite how terrifying it was being so high up. I also loved orienteering, an activity that included finding stones with drawings on them by going to different points on a map of the camp. For this activity, you had to work together with your group to make sure you were going in the right direction, with only the map to help us. Overall, it was an amazing experience that I am so glad that we got to have. – Keira

Year 7 camp was a very exciting experience and a beautiful end to the year. The activities were a blast but the giant swing was an all round favourite. The group 6 leader, Holly, was without a doubt the best instructor in Camp Yarramundi, which made each activity we did just that whole lot better. It was a super fun time and I would go back without a second thought. – Juliet

Camp was an exhilarating, challenging and fun experience. Camp put us through activities that used teamwork, critical thinking and strength. For example, Alpine Rescue used lots of teamwork and we had to carry a barrel through a range of obstacles and Orienteering used critical thinking as we had to locate 20 squares around the campgrounds. The Giants Ladder used lots of upper body strength as you had to pull yourself up gaps taller than the average Year 7. Overall, camp was a great experience for me and many others. – Charlotte

Camp Yarramundi was a fun, exciting camp where Year 7 participated in amazing activities. We were able to learn independence when sleeping in our cabins and learned more about our fellow peers. The giant swing was the highlight of the experience as swinging from so high up was thrilling. – Sophia

Camp was one of the best experiences we have had this year because it was fun while also being educational. The activities we learned while at camp taught us valuable life skills such as how to build a shelter with no materials, teamwork and to face your fears. The instructors and teachers made sure we always felt safe which made us all feel so much more comfortable. – Chelsea

Camp was so exciting as I got to do activities outside of my comfort zone like the giant swing. Making new friends and having 3 whole days without my phone turned out to be completely okay. This was such a good experience as everyone was kindly helping and comforting as the first night was honestly rough for most people. Overall, it was something I will never regret and will remember forever. – Natalie
