👁️ Eye Dissection – Year 12 Biology
As part of the Year 12 Biology course, earlier this Term students had the opportunity to dissect a cow’s eye, to further consolidate our understanding of the eye. It was something different, having a hands-on practical experiment, rather than watching videos. We would say it was more than worth it though!
We used scalpels to create incisions on the inside of the eye to allow us to observe the different parts of the eye anatomy, such as the lens, cornea, optic nerve and retina. We learnt that the white part of the eye (the sclera) is a tough protective layer for our eyes, while the inside is more delicate and fragile.
It was a great learning experience for all of us, having the hands-on opportunity to dissect the eye to learn the anatomy of the eye. We all learnt a lot from it. (Caitlin and Laura, Year 12)
