Phil Beverley, Director of Music
There is a wonderful hum in the air where making music is an integral part of the day in the lives of many Cranbrookians. From our Year 3 students who are discovering a wind instrument for the first time, to our Choirs, Bands and Orchestras. In Week 2, our Performance Plus Keynote speaker, Dr. Sarah Marshall, unpacked the topic of performance anxiety, providing practical insights into managing feelings of anxiety both as a musician and in life.

All ensembles are well and truly underway. We have deployed the attendance email system which will communicate the timing of your son’s arrival to ensembles. This is an important measure that helps encourage timely arrival for setup to ensembles, many of which commence at 7am. It also provides us with an effective way to log and maintain accurate data when reviewing applications for things like EQV and Colours awards. Attendance and punctuality are a crucial part of this award but most importantly, we hope to build good habits without punitive punishments. Music is an optional activity, and we want to make it as positive an experience as possible for every student. We will be extending this measure to instrumental lessons so that we can work together to ensure attendance is punctual to lessons that rotate through the day. Your son’s schedule is available for you to view through the Cranbrook App.
With over 320 lessons a week at Cranbrook, Music is an integral part of the learning experience for many, and we want to ensure we can keep you in the loop of your son’s attendance and progress as much as possible. The product of all of these experiences are best shared We do this in preparation to share these musical experiences with you and I would like to draw your attention to the following events.
