Basketball Report – Round 3
Cranbrook Basketball were scheduled against Trinity in Round 3 of the CAS season. Cranbrook Basketball finished the Round with 17 wins, 23 losses and 2 draws.

1sts
It was the first Friday Night Lights game of the season last Friday in The Factory (VCH); and the Brookie Boasters and basketball enthusiasts came out in droves to support the Cranbrook 1sts. Cranbrook started the game well and for the first 5 minutes were holding their own against a very talented Trinity team. Trinity started to put pressure on Cranbrook, the trickle turned into a flood and scoreline blew out quickly. Cranbrook fought and scrapped and worked and every player that participated gave every ounce of energy while on court but lost 48-108. Cruz MacTavish, at times looked unstoppable, easily evading defenders and finished with 13-points. The hard-working ball of energy, Xavier Spinola is starting to get a little loosey goosey scoring 8 points. Captain of Basketball, John Dulhunty and rocket guard Benny ‘The Chief’ Olschewski both contributed at both end of the floor. The most impressive aspect of the lop-sided game was the intensity of the entire Cranbrook 1sts team and the support of the Cranbrook community. It bodes well for the future, including Term 1 when the next home Friday Night Lights game is scheduled.

2nds
It was a competitive game for the Cranbrook 2nds against Trinity. After the first three quarters Trinty were in the lead 24-40, but Cranbrook was always threatening. Trinity took control in the last quarter winning, 61-33. Max Lluka and Hugo Bongardt scored 9-points and 8-points respectively and the whole team contributed throughout the game.

In the Spotlight – 8A
On centre court at The Factory (VCH1) the 8As were up against Trinity Grammar. Trinity always is competitive and are always difficult to beat. The Brook Ballers were ready to play and put together a smart and composed game. Jamie Petsoglou controlled the boards with Sam Pickett-Heaps and both looked like Bill Russell (Celtics great) cleaning the glass. Ned Lord showed his all-round game and Cooper ‘Loop’ Rosen sliced and dice on offence. It was a total team effort and a great win by the Cranbrook 8As.
