Dear Parents

As usual, it has been a hectic start here in the Senior School! I am pleased to report that there is an excellent sense of energy being felt from the student body. Students have been encouraged this week to ensure they give themselves the best opportunity to start the term well by being organised! Students are encouraged to:

  • Quickly understand their individual timetables, and report any issues to their Mentor,
  • Have a pencil case and all textbooks and workbooks organised and ready for each class,
  • Ensure that laptops are charged,
  • Make good use of the Student Diary, and
  • Develop a realistic routine for homework by making use of the template on Page 11 of the Student Diary.

Also worth mentioning are the School’s expectations on the amount of time to be spent on homework (see page 113 of the Student Diary):

Year 7:                              up to 60-90 mins 4 nights a week

Year 8/9:                           90-120 mins 4 nights a week

Year 10:                             Two hours 4 nights a week

Year 11 and 12:               Up to three hours 4 nights a week, especially in peak periods around exams

Some work on a Sunday afternoon or evening would also be encouraged. All students should also be engaging with at least 20 minutes of reading every night in addition to the above expectations around homework. 20 minutes of reading just before bed would also serve as a great chance for a digital detox!
