Common Issues

1 – If you can’t log on

You cannot use your username and password for Cranbrook Connect. You must follow the exact steps for setting up a new username and password: https://www.cranbrook.nsw.edu.au/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/2023_How-to-log-in-to-Parent-App_v4-1.pdf

2 – If none of the teams and fixtures are loading for your son

If you have logged on with your child’s school email address, you will not get any relevant information. The app will work, but with none of your child’s data. You will need to delete the app and start over again. Follow the steps above to set up a new username and password.

3 – If you cannot download the app Both Android and iPhone users can both download the app. If you are having trouble accessing it, the app has been created by Digistorm, which you can add into the search box.

Dear Parents,

This week, we celebrated the learning that occurs throughout our School when we held our K-5 Student Led Conferences (SLC). Parents of boys in K-5 were able to spend about two hours with their son while he shared his learning in all areas of the curriculum. Next term, our Year 6 parents will be able to come and hear their son present his independent inquiry. At that time, we will warmly invite K-5 parents to attend the Exhibition too, one of the highlights of the year.

Y12 Farewell Assembly
Last Friday morning, we welcomed our current Year 12 students who started in the Junior School to say farewell. One of our favourite annual assemblies, the occasion was a lovely opportunity for the Year 12 students to reminisce with some of their former Junior School teachers and for our younger students to honour these young men as they commence the next stage of their learning.

Holiday Camps
Parents who would like to see what holiday activities are on offer at Cranbrook over the forthcoming holidays, should look in the ‘News & Reminders’ section of this newsletter.

After a busy and productive term, the staff and I wish all our Cranbrook Junior School families a safe and relaxing holiday break. We look forward to seeing all our P-Y6 students return for Term 4 on Tuesday, 10 October.

Staff News
I am delighted to let everyone know that our Year 1 Year Level Coordinator, Chloe Jennings and her spouse, Ed, welcomed a little daughter, Effie Skye Jennings, mid this term. Everyone is doing very well and adjusting to being a family of three.

Today, we say farewell to Lee Robertson who has been working on the Year 3 team on Fridays for the past 18 months. Lee will be spending more time with her family and we thank her for kind ways and meticulous care of the students and staff whilst she has been with us.

Kind wishes

Michele Marquet
Head of Junior School

Special Report: R U OK? Day

Understanding the growing challenges related to mental health among young people is an important consideration. Anxiety, depression and self-harm –– are all causes for concern. Factors like academic pressure, social media, family dynamics, and societal expectations, are contributing to these issues. It’s therefore crucial for parents and caregivers to take action early, remove the stigma around discussing mental health, and offer accessible support to address these issues and the wellbeing of their children.

R U OK? contributes to suicide prevention year round by urging people to invest time in personal relationships and empowering informal support networks to identify signs of distress. We urge all families to take part, emphasising the value of genuine human relationships and reminding everyone to ask the important question, “Are you OK?”

Engaging in R U OK?Day activities goes beyond the classroom; it’s a commitment to our students’ overall development. By talking openly about mental health, schools create safe spaces where students feel understood, valued, and supported. As parents and caregivers, you can contribute by fostering open conversations, normalising feelings and breaking down mental health stigmas. Participating in R U OK?Day promotes compassion and shows our dedication to the wellbeing of the entire school community, reaffirming that together, we can truly make a difference.

This Special Report provides guidance on how to talk to your child about mental health and engage in meaningful discussions. We hope you take a moment to reflect on the information offered, and as always, we welcome your feedback. If this raises any concerns for you, a loved one or the wellbeing of your child, please consider seeking medical or professional help.

National Threatened Species Day

The Community Service Committee would like to thank everyone who donated or participated in ‘National Threatened Species Day’. A lot of friendly fluffy animal toys made it to school last Thursday. The simple action of bringing a fluffy toy animal to school not only raised awareness about an important issue, but also helped many children to broaden their understanding of the part we can all play in making our world a better place. It was wonderful to hear so many children expertly discuss the plight of their ‘endangered’ animal.

P- Year 6 raised over $930 which will go directly towards the World Wildlife Fund’s effort to protect endangered plants and animals in Australia. Thank you all once again.

Christmas Lunch Hat Competition

Plans are currently underway for this year’s Y3-Y6 Annual Christmas Lunch held later in Term 4. As part of the tradition of this lunch, we invite all students in Y3-Y6 to make a special Christmas hat to make and wear to the lunch and we award a prize for one that demonstrates wonderful creativity and cleverness, as well as having a group of honourable mentions. Students might like to start thinking about what they might make for their hat and use the upcoming holidays to start their creation. Seeing everyone’s hat is always a highlight of the day!

Letter from the President of the CSPA

The Cranbrook School Parents Association (CSPA) is a not-for-profit association of all Cranbrook parents run by an elected committee of Year Representatives, General Committee Members and the Executive. The primary role of the CSPA is to support Cranbrook School, particularly the parent community, fostering goodwill and creating a community that is inclusive and welcoming to all. We are seeking nominations from parents across the whole school community for volunteer roles on the CSPA Committee.

Student Cap Development Application Submission

Following the decision by the School Council in 2022 to enrol girls into Cranbrook School from 2026, a Development Application has been submitted to the Woollahra Municipal Council to increase the student enrolment cap at our Bellevue Hill campus from 1339 to 1600.  The Development Application includes consideration of the feedback received during the community engagement in April to June of 2023.

This planned increase will come into effect from 2026 and will provide sufficient capacity to accept girls into the Senior School offering a fully coeducational environment across all year groups from 2029.

Cranbrook School is fully committed to keeping the community informed and updates continue to be provided via newsletters available below.

Should you have any queries regarding this process, please contact Urbis at engagement@urbis.com.au

IPSHA Parent Code of Conduct

IPSHA, the Independent Schools association which organises all our sporting fixtures, has asked all member schools to remind families about the Code of Conduct for Parents whose children are engaged in our Interschool Saturday Sports competition.

Sadly, there has been unfortunate parental behaviour reported at different venues and IPSHA are keen to remind everyone that the purpose of school sport is student enjoyment of the game and that there are clear expectations of how we engage with staff and coaches, as well as how spectators should behave on the sidelines during games. Please see the IPSHA Code of Conduct here.

We ask our families to fully support this protocol, so our children enjoy their sport and staff are treated with respect.
