Term 4 continues to race past with boys working on their final unit for the year and preparations for our end of year activities well underway.
Last week, Y2-Y6 families will have received their invitation to the Junior School Prize Giving, which is being held on Monday, 11 December at 10am. Communication to the families of prize or award winners is not made until the week prior to Prize Giving. Junior School boys should attend school as normal from the start of the day (drop off from 7:45am), wearing full summer uniform (no sports gear should be worn on this day) and they should bring their normal recess. Parking for families attending is best sought at Lyne Park, Rose Bay Ferry and Manion Road Car Parks. This event will conclude at approximately 12pm – 12:15pm, when the students will head home for the Christmas holidays accompanied by their parents. We will also run a carline at that time if parents need to collect their sons.
Many beautifully written acceptances to the Y3-Y6 Christmas Lunch have been posted in our special red post-box in Reception. I look forward to reading a RSVP from every boy in Y3-Y6 as the excitement builds for the Christmas Lunch in a few weeks’ time. Boys should also be planning their special Christmas Hat to wear on the day. Parents can read further information about the lunch via the Operoo note sent recently to their inbox.
This week, we welcome parents to the Y2 Strings Concert and next week the Y3 Strings/Brass/Woodwind Concert. Details have been sent out via Operoo.
Current Address & JS Office Holiday Closure As we head towards the end of the year, it is most important that the School has your up-to-date address on our database. If your mailing address has changed recently, please email familyupdates@cranbrook.nsw.edu.au, so these details can be updated before reports, class allocations and start of year information are posted out. Please remember that the Junior School Office is closed over the holiday period from 14 December 2023 until 23 January 2024.
Reports, Class Allocations and Start of Term Information Parents are reminded that their son’s 2023 Semester 2 report, 2024 class allocation and information about the start of 2023 will be emailed during the holidays.
Y3-Y6 Christmas Lunch Volunteers This week, our CSPA Vice President (Junior School), Angelique Haritos, contacted Y3-Y6 parents via an Operoo email to explain how they could assist with our annual Christmas Lunch and how this process is organised. We are very grateful to those parents who are in a position to help on the day or in other ways and thank them in advance for their assistance.
We are encouraging our students to do some jobs at home during the month of November, so they can raise some funds to help children in other parts of the world who may be experiencing a hard time at the moment.
Y6 Valedictory Service – Friday, 8 December – 1.15pm
Last day of classes – Friday, 8 December
P-6 JS Prize Giving – Monday, 11 December 10am

Toys ‘n’ Tucker
The Cranbrook community is invited to support the annual Anglicare Toys ‘n’ Tucker initiative. Donations assist those in our local communities who would otherwise go without.
Please, no second-hand gifts, chocolate, or anything else that can melt. Bring your unwrapped gifts and donations to your year level piazza. The final date for your donation is the day of our Christmas Lunch on Thursday, 30 November.
Suggested donations include long life custard, pasta sauce, tinned tuna/salmon/ham, Christmas cake & puddings, small packs of biscuits and small packs of lollies
Gifts for babies, children and teenagers include toys for all ages, vouchers, toiletry gift packs for teenagers, sports equipment, family games and books for all ages.
Learn to Swim – Transport After School Lessons
Junior School families whose children have a Learn to Swim lesson after school (i.e. lessons that commence before 4:15pm) are able to book a seat for their child to travel on the Inner West bus that goes directly from inside the Junior School to the Senior School at the end of the school day each day of the week.
Students will be dropped off near the AFC and then walked from the bus to the pool by AFC staff and supervised while they get ready for their lesson. Parents can meet their sons at the pool. For ease when changing, it would be best if students with lessons wear their swimmers under their school uniform. Please email bus@cranbrook.nsw.edu.au if you are interested in booking a bus spot for your child and we will send a booking link once it is available. The cost is $100 per term.
We are also pleased to let parents know that if they prefer to pick up their child in carline or if their child has swimming lessons a little later in the afternoon, they can now make use of the school carpark next to the pool after 3:30pm to park during the LTS lesson.
We hope these new opportunities assist with the busyness of the traffic near the AFC in the afternoons.

K-Y2 Christmas Activities
On Wednesday, 6 December students in K-2 will enjoy special Christmas Activities and their parents are invited to come onto campus at the very end of the afternoon to collect their sons in person from their classrooms. Details about this lovely event were sent home earlier this week.
Christmas Lunch
We are all looking forward to our annual Y3-Y6 Christmas Lunch in the Junior School Gymnasium. Recently, Y3-Y6 students received their personal invitation to this special lunch, to be held on Thursday, 30 November. Students in Y3-Y6 should handwrite an acceptance to attend the lunch and post it in the red ‘Christmas Lunch’ post-box in Reception.
There is also a separate consent form for parents to sign which was sent to parents via Operoo. Our CSPA Vice President for Junior School has reached out to our families to ask if they would like to help with this event.
This year, with so many worrying things happening around the world, we have opted for a slightly simpler lunch menu which will come at a lesser cost, and we will still have all the fun activities we usually do as part of the lunch. We will be asking every Y3-Y6 student to consider what small jobs at home they could do to help to raise some money to donate to UNICEF. We are fundraising to support UNICEF, so they can continue their life-saving work for children. Every day, UNICEF is working around the world to help children realise their full potential by providing access to clean water, life-saving vaccines, quality education, and health care. UNICEF works to ensure every child is safe and protected from harm and is always there during times of emergency.
We hope the boys can feel happiness in knowing they have actively done something to help other children who are not living in such a peaceful and safe part of the world. Donations are, of course, entirely optional, but it would be wonderful, as a whole community, to collect a sizeable amount for this worthy cause. Details about what the boys will need to do and a link to make a donation can be found here UNICEF LINK and in the parent note on Operoo.
During the lunch, the students have the opportunity to meet staff from across the entire School, especially those who work in ‘behind the scenes’ roles. This can help our students come to appreciate how all these people work together to provide the wonderful education they are so fortunate to receive. The lunch is one way the Junior School staff and students say thank you to the many people who work at Cranbrook in non-public roles, but without whom we could not function!
We also ask our students to bring in a donation of non-perishable food and/or children’s gifts for Anglicare (Toys’n’Tucker). Information about this has already been shared in our newsletter.
