Message from Michele Marquet

Dear Parents,

Term 4 continues to race past with boys commencing their final unit for the year and preparations for our end of year activities are well underway.

This week, K-Y6 families will have received their invitation to the Junior School Prize Giving, which is being held on Wednesday, 7 December at 10am. For the first time in two years, all students will be able to attend this event and families are welcome to attend as well. Communication to the families of prize or award winners is not made until the end of the week prior to Prize Giving. Junior School boys should attend school as normal from the start of the day (drop off from 7:45am), wearing full summer uniform (no sports gear should be worn on this day) and they should bring their normal recess. Parking for families attending is best sought at Lyne Park, Rose Bay Ferry and Manion Road Car Parks. This event will conclude at approximately 12pm – 12:15pm, when the students will head home for the Christmas holidays accompanied by their parents. We will also run a carline at that time if parents need to collect their sons.

Many beautifully written acceptances to the Y3-Y6 Christmas Lunch have been posted in our special red post-box in Reception. I look forward to reading a RSVP from every boy in Y3-Y6 as the excitement builds for the Christmas Lunch in a few weeks’ time. Boys should also be planning their special Christmas Hat to wear on the day. Parents can read further information about the lunch via the Operoo note sent recently to their inbox.

Once again, the end of year is approaching and many parents and children start thinking about what will happen at school in the year to come.

A successful transition to the next grade – whether it is into Year 1, Year 3 or moving up to Year 7 in the Senior School – can be greatly assisted by parents. Today, the Junior School boys visited their 2023 year level area or, in the case of Year 6, toured the Senior School. Next year’s Kindergarten boys also spent two mornings last week visiting the Junior School as part of their transition programme. These visits allow the boys to see what it is like, talk with current teachers of the next grade and ask questions they might have, before ‘moving up’ in 2023. They are part of helping our students manage the challenges that change naturally brings.

Parents can assist their child to make a successful transition in a number of ways:

  • Remember that as parents, we are trying to assist our sons to manage their feelings of concern by putting them into perspective, rather than trying to fix the situation so there is nothing for our sons to worry about.
  • Children pick up signs of anxiety in their parents very quickly, so try to be positive about the move into a new year level.
  • Allow your child to express concern if they should feel it – but don’t ask them if they are worried about the new teacher or the new class!
  • Highlight positives about growing up and confirm your belief that your son will manage well.
  • Remind your son that nervous anticipation is often much worse than the actual thing, that it is normal to feel a little anxious about an upcoming change and there are ways to manage that feeling, for example, through positive self-talk where we remind ourselves of the facts of the situation.
  • Don’t initiate conversation about the move too much – otherwise they will think there is something to worry about!
  • Talk to your son about the things they will be able to do in the following year e.g. Year 1 boys can choose new after school activities; Year 6 boys take on key leadership roles in the Junior School and Year 3 boys start playing team sports and have even more after school activities from which to choose!
  • Remind your son that some of the boys from his current class will be in next year’s class – but having new boys in it will mean he can make even more friends.
  • Remind your son that if there are problems when he moves, that he will face those with your support to cope with those challenges. Remind him of previous successes with dealing with issues in the past as an indication of being able to address problems and move on.

Things do change every year at school but coping with change is an essential life skill. Helping your boys believe they can manage admirably, then praising them when they do, is a great gift to give them as a parent. If you are concerned about any aspect of their transition to the next grade, please talk with your son’s class teacher.

Head of Sport/PDHPE, JS: Mr James Roughan

Cranbrook Junior School is excited to welcome James Roughan as our new Head of Sport/PDHPE, JS from 2023.  Mr Roughan hails from Christchurch, New Zealand, where he captained representative rugby teams and played for New Zealand at University level. He studied education at the University of Canterbury before moving to Auckland to teach at Rosmini College, as the Maori Dean and Head of Maori Studies. In this position, he focused on creating programs to improve educational experiences and outcomes for Maori students. Mr Roughan then moved to Mulgrave Independent School in Vancouver, Canada as a physical education teacher and the First XV Head Rugby Coach.

In 2018, Mr Roughan was promoted to Athletic Director at Fraser Academy where he was instrumental in organising educational programs and sport tours for the Alpine ski, basketball and rugby teams to USA and Canadian Schools and Universities. He is a passionate educator with a strong focus on mental health and improving student wellbeing through participation in physical activity. When not at work you’ll find James learning Spanish, camping with friends, finding the next surf break or trying to perfect his sourdough pizza starter.

Mr Roughan is looking forward to joining the Cranbrook community and working with our teachers and students to create a world class school which encourages and enables all of our students to fulfil their potential.

Director of Educational Psychology, JS: Mr Campbell Jensen-Robilliard

We are excited to welcome Campbell Jensen-Robilliard as our new JS Director of Educational Psychology from 2023. Campbell was most recently Preparatory School Psychologist at Newington College for nine and a half years. Prior to this appointment, Campbell worked as a school counsellor in the Department of Education supporting schools for children from refugee backgrounds, and children with intellectual and physical disability.

Campbell’s studies include undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in psychology, a master’s degree in teaching, and he is currently completing an MSc – Organisational Psychology through the University of London. In his leisure time, you’ll most likely find Campbell either sitting at a piano or spending quality time with his 11-month-old daughter.

‘I strongly believe that psychologists and mental health practitioners can, and should, operate further upstream such that their reach encompasses entire populations. I am excited at the prospect of working proactively and universally at Cranbrook School and to develop and strengthen the mental health and wellbeing of its students.’

Campbell will work closely with all the JS staff to build wellbeing resilience for every child at the Junior School, as well as establish the care needed for those students requiring higher levels of support.

We know you will warmly welcome both Campbell and James to Cranbrook.

Pre-schools’ News – Week 5

Thank you for the kind wishes I have received this week. It has been a pleasure working at Cranbrook for the past 11 ½ years and my role as Pre-school Coordinator has been a wonderful experience. Our Pre-school children fill our campuses with joy and wonder each day and it has been an absolute delight working with a dedicated team of awesome educators helping our young learners thrive.

This week, our Pre-school children enjoyed a visit from Jenny at Little Wings Puppetry Group who performed her puppet show ‘The fish that wanted to fly.’ It was a great opportunity for our children to see a professional puppeteer construct her performance using puppets, staging, voice and gestures. Jenny’s visit has helped develop our understanding of our central idea ‘We express and appreciate creativity in unique ways.’ Please see the Day Book at the end of each day or via the digital copy placed on Cranbrook Connect at the end of each week to find out more about the learning experiences that have taken place this week.

Perspectives: Podcast Series – A Conversation with our Headmaster

Welcome to our new Perspectives podcast series. This is the first in a series of conversations between key members of our academic staff and our Headmaster, Nicholas Sampson.

In this inaugural podcast, Dr David Thomas, Hone Housemaster and longstanding School Historian, reflects on Nicholas Sampson’s achievements as a leader, delving back into his history as a Headmaster. They discuss what constitutes a truly liberal education, the vision for the School, the legacy a great School should leave behind, and how Nicholas’ own career so far has shaped his perspective.

Liberalism and education converge, as you are teaching people to gain a greater and deeper understanding of the truth.

From defining liberalism and the ultimate freedom it creates, to the rewards of teaching, the importance of conversations in corridors, the special genius of our School and the move to a more tertiary style of learning are all topics for discussion in this first podcast.

To listen please click here or on the graphic below.

We hope you enjoy this insightful conversation with our Headmaster and welcome your views and questions for the next release in the Perspectives podcast series, due for release in Term 1 2023, via Cranbrook@cranbrook.nsw.edu.au.

Parents of boys in Year 5 2022 who may be interested in applying for a Senior School Scholarship for their son, should read the Scholarships 2024 information available now via this link.

Changes to COVID-19 Isolation Period

From Friday, 14 October 2022, it is no longer mandatory to self-isolate at home, if your child tests positive to COVID-19. However, NSW Health strongly recommends people who are sick or have tested positive to COVID-19 stay home until their symptoms have gone. Please consider the impact on our community, if unwell children are at school.

Our Health Centre’s focus will still be on ensuring unwell students are sent home and stay home until well. Thank you for your ongoing understanding and sensible caution.

K-Y2 Christmas Celebration & Activities

On the last Monday of the term, students in K-2 will enjoy special Christmas Activities and their parents are invited to come onto campus at the very end to collect their sons and special craft from their classrooms. Details about this lovely event have been emailed to families this week.

Y3-Y6 Christmas Lunch

Y3-Y6 Christmas Lunch Volunteers
Arrangements for our annual Christmas Lunch are underway. Earlier this week, families should have received an Operoo email explaining how parents may assist and how this process is organised, so we have some helpers from each year group (Y3-Y6). We are very grateful to those parents who are in a position to help on the day and thank them in advance for their assistance.

Year 1 at Taronga Zoo

Year 1 enjoyed a fantastic day out at Taronga Zoo to kickstart their ‘Sharing the Planet’ unit. The boys enjoyed an interactive ‘Animal Encounter’ workshop, a bird show, and an afternoon seeing some of their favourite animals up close.

They particularly relished the opportunity to stroke a diamond python, baby possum, green tree frog and shingleback lizard. The boys demonstrated true Cranbrook values and did their teachers and families proud with their beautiful manners and curious attitudes.

Barvember – Maths Challenge

We are inviting all capable Mathematicians in Y3-Y6 to join us for an international Barvember Challenge.

During the month of November, Mr Scott Wells will release a range of problem-solving questions each day as part of his ‘Barvember’ celebrations, where students from around the world will compete against one another. The questions will require students to use the Bar Model method as part of their solutions. These daily problem-solving lessons will provide a great platform for our boys to develop their understanding and implementation of the Bar Model pedagogical strategy.

If your son is in Y3-Y6 and enjoys problem solving, invite him to join Mr Wells at lunch each day in November in the Year 6 Piazza.

Little League Summer Sport Reports Round 10

Basketball Round 10

Basketball Year 5/6 As – Cranbrook 32 defeated by Trinity Grammar 34

The As had their first loss of the year on Saturday to Trinity Grammar. After an inspired effort at training during the week, the boys were unsuccessful in redeeming themselves during the game. Too many turnovers, resulted in easy opportunities for Trinity. Jaysal K and Theo W stepped up the defence in the second half, however this was not enough to hold off the Trinity attack. As a team, Cranbrook needs to focus more on team effort and excellence rather than individual results. This will be sure to be the emphasis of training in preparation for their round 11 fixture.

Basketball Year 5/6 Bs – Cranbrook 34 defeated Trinity Grammar 27

The Bs had their first win of the second half of the season on the weekend, defeating Trinity Grammar. What was most impressive was the effort that the team displayed on both ends of the court. Seeing the boys play as a team was a pleasure to watch. Tom D was inspirational, showing energy both on and off the court. Vinnie B and Will A rebounded well throughout the game, out letting the ball to Oscar R and Huw S. the highlight of the game went to Alex S for his ‘Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’ hook shot in the first half. Congratulations to the Bs for their efforts on the weekend.

Basketball Year 5/6 Cs – Cranbrook 22 defeated Trinity 8

The boys started slow, trying to figure out Trinity’s game plan as the game trotted along but managed a comfortable 22-8 victory. This week, an all-around effort by the boys with our defensive warriors in Rahul W and Lachlan R-W cutting off layups as an option for the Trinity boys. The duo of Eddies (F and N) alongside Logan H and Jake C played a rough and tough game, shocking the Trinity players with their physicality and unpredictability. Darcy W made sure the boys maintained their winning lead by rebounding for missed layups and going up strong for his own.

Basketball Year 5/6 Ds – Cranbrook 30 defeated Trinity Grammar 16

In this week’s thriller game against Trinity, the boys showed real gusto and comradery in a 30-16 win. Jamie’s return to the court was good, showing off his defensive presence and scoring abilities to all who missed him. As usual, our three musketeers: Seb K, Sam F and Jamie P continuously shut down any momentum that Trinity gleamed. Heath C-H did all he could hustling for the ball while persevering despite his body telling him otherwise. Charlie R made the game hard for Trinity, stealing the ball and his speed to demand a commanding league. Finally, Aidan put on a performance that we all knew was hiding deep inside him: two monster 3-pointers and a handful of unpredictable layups and jump shots.

Basketball Year 5/6 Es – Cranbrook 24 defeated by Trinity Grammar 30

This was another extremely close match from this weekend’s fixtures, with both the Cranbrook and Trinity teams going back and forth, doing it all on every facet of the game. Standout performers of today’s match were Finn, Loic, and David, scoring 10, 6, and 4 points respectively. Despite these efforts, as well as the defensive intensity of Hugh, who had 4 blocks, the boys unfortunately couldn’t secure the win. Although the game ended with a final score of 30-24, the boys continued to keep their head up and they should be proud of their efforts.

Basketball Year 5/6 Fs – Cranbrook 20 defeated by Trinity Grammar 26

The 5/6Fs came out strong in the first half led by the huge efforts of Eamon and Jack on the offensive ends. The boys were up 14-13 going into half time. However, coming in to the second half, Trinity proved themselves and came out firing. Unfortunately, despite our efforts, the Trinity side evidently began to slip out of our grasp, leading to a final score of 20-26.

Basketball Year 5/6 Gs – Cranbrook 12 defeated by Trinity Grammar 34

This was a tough game for Cranbrook. The boys of the 5/6G’s fought long and hard against the strong Trinity side, holding their own in the first half lead by the defensive powerhouses of Tesak and Nicholas. However, despite the efforts of Costa V, Michael M, and Michael I on the offensive end, the Trinity side proved too themselves too strong, leading to a final score of 12-34.

Basketball Year 5/6 Hs – Cranbrook 26 drew with Trinity Grammar 26

This was an incredible game to watch. The strong Trinity side tested our very own Cranbrook 5/6Hs in all aspects of the game, putting pressure on both our offensive and defensive threats and limiting our playmaking opportunities. However, the boys reset and came back strong later in the second half despite being 8 points down. This offensive effort, led by Zac G who had 24 points was outstanding to watch. Although the boys didn’t get the win, the final score of 26-26 is a great representation of the intensity of this game.

Basketball Year 3/4 As – Cranbrook 26 defeated by Scots 29

For the Year 3/4 As, Saturday’s game against Scots was a great learning experience and their efforts are to be commended.  Despite the nail-biting loss, the boys played with tremendous heart and passion as the game saw both teams trade baskets until the very end.  Although Cranbrook were outsized, their speed on attack and hustle on the defensive end made up for it and led to key fastbreak points.  Each and every player stood out and the boys look to use the lessons learnt from this game to continue their evolution as basketball players.

Basketball Year 3/4 Bs – Cranbrook 15 defeated by Scots 16

Looking to build upon their momentum from the previous weeks, the Year 3/4 Bs suffered their first loss at the hands of a well drilled Scots Bs team.  The boys showed an impressive level of patience as they were not forceful in making silly passes, instead, they passed it around until the best possible shot was taken.  There were a few lapses on defence due to fatigue, however, the Bs once again showed their disciplined mentality making sure no Scots player was open.  The game ended in a 1 point loss, which had unfortunately been taken away from a made free throw, however, the boys held their head high and used this game as a lesson.

Basketball Year 3/4 Cs – Cranbrook 2 defeated by Scots 48

The Cs were unfortunately out played on Saturday, versing Scots’ 3A team. The overwhelming size from the Scots side was initially intimidating for boys. We weren’t able establish much on offensive end of the ball, and the score showed this. However, the C’s must be commended for their resilience and their positive attitude that never wavered. Hugo Smits was the MVP on the weekend for Brook for his constant effort and tenacity.

Basketball Year 3/4 Ds – Cranbrook 6 defeated by Scots 16

The 3/4Ds faced Scots’ Year 3Bs team on the weekend. The boys struggled against a more skilled opponent, but nevertheless, the determination and resilience to keep fighting even though the game was rather lopsided from the get-go. Special mention must go to Luca M and Ziggy D for constant defensive intensity and giving it their all on the offensive end.

Basketball Year 3/4 White 1 – Cranbrook 10 defeated Scots 9

A classic battle of the hill, one to remember. Coming back from an 8-4 deficit, the boys killed it and switched on in the second half to bring it back to beat Scots 10-9. The Brookie Boys really stepped up defensively by successfully marking each player which resulted in many interceptions. Liam S showed off his rapid speed and dribbling skills to perform a layup early in the first half. While Sammy I and Jamie S made their mark on the game with some aggressive defence to bring us back into the game.

Basketball Year 3/4 White 2 – Cranbrook 22 defeated Scots 2

The boys absolutely smashed it this week! 22-2. They were relentless in defence which limited Scots’ opportunities to take shots and showed off their teamwork in offence with some great passing and spatial awareness. Oscar M and Jonathan H were a standout in offence, often dribbling the ball all the way up the court to make a layup or pass. Marcus C and Carlitos C were both trouble for the Scots offence as they took every opportunity to steal the ball.

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 1 – Cranbrook 15 defeated Scots 14

The Blue 1’s game against Scot’s was an absolute thriller, with the boys coming away with a 14-15 win that came down to the wire. Special shout-out to Tom S, who was a hero on defence and in the rebounding arena. The boys had a rough start, but eventually got into a shooting rhythm that pushed them ahead – an admirable display of resilience. In training, we will work on our defence so that teams don’t get as close as Scot’s did in the future. Well done boys!

Basketball Year 3/4 Blue 2 – Cranbrook 12 defeated by Scots 16

The Blue 2’s gave it their all on the court, coming up short with a 16-12 loss against Scots. Down 8 at the half, the boys fought hard to cut the deficit to 4 points – an admirable display of heart and passion. Unfortunately, it was not enough against a strong Scots team. In training, we will work on our rebounding and shooting to make sure we are prepared for next time. Well played boys!

Cricket Round 10

Year 6A Cricket – Cranbrook defeated by St Aloysius

The 6As took on St Aloysius looking to get back in the winner’s circle, on a great morning at Dangar Oval. Winning the toss and batting first the boys did extremely well, running between the wickets. Archie P leading the way with the bat, retiring, and helping the boys get to 6/100 after our 20 overs. Getting away from us early, Aloysius batted well, but some great catching and accurate bowling from all the boys kept us in the game. An amazing double wicket maiden from Christoph F took it right to the wire, yet again! Unfortunately, the boys went down by 1 wicket in a thriller 9/101.

Year 6B Cricket – Cranbrook defeated by St Aloysius

The 6B’s finally met their match on Saturday in a formidable St Aloysius outfit, ending their undefeated record.  Having been sent into bat first, the lads batted with class and poise being lead from the front by Ethan ‘Eazy E’ Skurnik and Andrew ‘Mr Consistent’ Harris. However, with the ball some wayward bowling and lacklustre efforts in the field really started to add up as Aloys chased down their target. Whilst all good things must come to an end, I have zero doubt that this sleeping dragon of the Cranbrook cricket program will awaken from their form slump and return bigger and better than ever. Onto the next one.

Year 5A Cricket – Cranbrook defeated by Knox

The 5As played a different format this week like Term 1 away at Knox. The competitive fixture of stage 2 T20 cricket gave our boys a taster of full format cricket. Halfway through the innings with a few of us out, a sold partnership between Alistair T and Thomas A brought us back into the game with an innings score of 7/81. In the break we spoke about the importance of being alert in the field and setting a field to stop quick singles. This brought us success in parts of our batting innings. Some brilliant bowling from the spinners Alistair T and Jasper L however, their batting power was too much to contain. A competitive game of cricket, with lots to look forward to in the next term.

Year 5B Cricket – Cranbrook defeated by Knox

It was a tough road trip out to Gillespie for the 5B’s who played a quality Knox outfit. Cranbrook won the toss and elected to bat, however scoring runs was made difficult due to Knox’s tight bowling restricting us to 66. Raffy S top scored with 13 off 12 balls. With a low total to defend, bowling and fielding needed to be accurate. Going for 24 runs off the 1st 2 overs was not the start we needed, and the damage was done early as Knox chased down the total in 8 overs. After a tough loss, the Cranbrook 5B’s will be looking to bounce back strongly next week against Tudor House.

Year 5C Cricket – Cranbrook defeated Knox

The Cranbrook 5Cs continued their recent run of form with a comprehensive win over Knox on Saturday. Cranbrook lost the toss and was sent into bat, with the opening partnership of Teddy C and Owen C getting Cranbrook off to a solid start, with Owen C scoring a swift 18*. Steven H steadied the ship throughout the middle overs with a quick 21, and Bondi M finished the innings off with a tidy 16 in the final overs. Cranbrook set a competitive total of 136 for Knox to chase down. This proved to be too big of a task for an understrength Knox outfit, with Cranbrook applying their fielding skills, learnt in training, to take a few quick run outs throughout the innings. This was followed up with strong bowling performance from Henry W (2 wickets), Bondi M and Teddy C. The boys should continue to build upon their recent strong run of performances for next week.

Year 4A Cricket – Cranbrook 80 defeated Scots 56

Saturday’s derby clash against Scots was primed to be a fixture which saw some exciting cricket, and it certainly delivered on those expectations. Batting first, Cranbrook had moments of excellence and moments of difficulty, facing a Scots bowling attack which was unrelenting and tenacious.

But it was with ball in hand that Cranbrook shined. There was excellent bowling, particularly from Jack R, and some quality fielding, doing fantastically to make the most of the chances that came and restrict easy runs for Scots. Taking 13 wickets, the result was a brilliant victory for Cranbrook which will serve as a roadmap for future matches to come.

Year 4Blue vs 4Red Cricket – Cranbrook Blue 111 defeated Cranbrook Red 107

The boys arrived at Steyne Park, Knowing the game would be a little bit different today as there were no tees and the ball was hard. The Blue team won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Blues opened the bowling with Joseph L with George Y and Henry C-S opening the batting for the Reds getting the Reds off to a flier that was soon imposed on by Tomek O who took the first wicket of the game in the 4th over. Charlie H and Alec R were the next pair in for the Reds they began their innings strong posting 10 runs in the first over, the Reds were really looking to take control of the game and post a big total for the Blues to chase. Charlie H and Alec R had some great running between the wickets and some nice shots to the boundary giving a total of 28 runs. Jack E and Rembrandt T were the last pair in looking to continue the run flow for the Reds, this was put to a stop by George F with a great leg break ball to crash into the stumps. The Reds ended up finishing on a total of 82 with only losing 2 wickets in the whole innings which is a great sign of protecting their wicket.

It was a quick change over for the boys with Blues ready to bat, Austin M and Felix C opened the batting for the Blues as they looked to knock the ball around the ground and take some risky singles, Charlie H came charging in the change all that taking 2 wickets in his first over only leaving the Blues with 27 runs in the first pair. George F and Tomek O were the second pair the boys were able to give Blue the advantage, hitting the ball to the boundaries and taking the 1s and 2s when they were available, really giving the Blues the edge over the Reds with 39 runs in the pair. Joseph L and Angus D were the last pair into bat the Blues once again were able to hit the ball to the boundary also taking the 1s and 2s, there came a time where they took 2 too many with 2 great run outs from the Reds making the game come down to the wire. I would like to congratulate all who took part in the game with the ability to adapt to a new style of cricket for many of them. The boys were able to land the ball on the pitch and really make it a great game to watch and be a part of. Looking Forward two final two matches with these young men and continuing to develop their game in the coming weeks.

Year 3A Master Blasters – Cranbrook defeated Grammar St Ives

The Cranbrook 3As showcased a strong outing against Grammar St Ives. With the bat, special mention goes to James C with 35*. The team ended up on 170 runs. On the bowling front, Leo S was the spin king taking 2 wickets and making the opposition batters look silly. However, most impressive was the 3 run outs effected with a great team fielding performance to limit the opposition to a total of just 93 runs. Well done boys!

Year 3B Master Blasters – Cranbrook defeated Grammar St Ives

The Cranbrook 3Bs were keen to continue their positive performance from last week, demonstrating great skill in all three areas of the game. Batting first, the boys were positive in their intent. However, some good bowling from Grammar restricted the total to 92 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Backing up the batting innings, the boys were brilliant in the field with a noticeable improvement in the catching and wicket keeping. Run outs in the last few overs kept the boys in the game, but ultimately it wasn’t enough as the 3Bs lost by 3 runs in a nail biter.

Year 3C Master Blasters – Cranbrook defeated Grammar St Ives

The Year 3 Cs continued their perfect start to the year with another win on Saturday, the boys were great on both sides of the ball and showed their class throughout. Another day out next Saturday and the boys will be hoping to continue their winning run.’

Tennis Round 10

Tennis As – Cranbrook defeated by Scots

The A Team received a warm welcome at their Friday night fixture in Scots Senior School. There some terrific doubles showdowns with Lachlan B. and Riley T. putting on a fantastic display of communication and sportsmanship. Lucas T. and Sebastian T. has great success in their singles fixtures with plenty of super serves and great returns.  The students eagerly await their home fixture for Round 11.

Tennis Cs – Cranbrook defeated by Grammar St Ives

While the boys went down with some losses, spirits were high, and the boys put their bodies on the line to get the points! A special mention to Ollie O who went down to hit the deck (chin first!) but gained the point, and after taking a short break from his match with a split chin, was able to get back onto the court to complete the match for the morning. Another special mention to Ethan G for winning his singles match 3-2, and to the 3’s team (Ollie O and Alex B) who won their doubles match 4-3.

Multi-Sports

Within the week, the multi-sporters continued to develop their striking, throwing, and fielding skills. These skills were displayed during our Saturday session of Team Red vs Team Blue in Tee Ball. The game was close throughout however Team Blue was victorious. Amiel B and Lucas Z demonstrated excellent awareness of space when fielding. All boys should be commended for their tremendous effort and sportsmanship.

Sailing

Another successful Saturday with the boys practicing racing in low winds, requiring lots of focus and concentration. They had a great time completing mystery race, practicing sculling, and propelling the boat with no wind.

Music – Week 5

Y3-Y6 Soiree Thursday Evening

Last Thursday, between 6pm and 7pm, 15 young instrumentalists gave the most outstanding individual performances to a crowded room of parents, sibling, grandparents and friends. All performances were extraordinarily polished, and it was obvious that boys had been working hard to achieve such amazing results. Pianos, violins, violas, cellos, guitars, French horns, saxophones and voices were showcased, and the variety of styles displayed the versatility of the performers.
