Message from Michele Marquet

Dear Parents,

It was a delight to see all the boys back at school this week, eager to see friends and staff and ready for the final term of the year. A warm welcome back to returning students Sam Simich (Y4) and Bondi Matthews (Y5).

Our 2023 Senior School leaders joined our Year 6 students and staff yesterday to take part in the inaugural Head of House and Prefect Challenge Afternoon. Our Y12 leaders organised a range of competitive, simple but enjoyable games and team building activities for the Y6 boys to participate in with the Senior School students. Opportunities such as this are aimed to help our Year 6 boys build some supportive relationships with the older students in preparation for the step up to Senior School. We thank Mr Peter Young, Mrs Angelique Sanders, Mr Grant Andrews, Mr Richard Baker, the Y6 Teaching Team, as well as the Y12 leaders, for ensuring the afternoon was a success for our Y6 boys.

JS Reception

Junior School Reception is now fully functioning again. Parents are welcome to come into Reception through the main entrance and to speak with Mrs Jill McPherson, our Office Manager about any matters she can assist them with at school. Students will also now need to go into Reception to be signed in, if they arrive at school after the start of the school day, or to be signed out, if they need to leave the campus early for any reason

ySafe Cyber Safety Sessions for Year 3 and Year 4

With the ongoing issues that online gaming and social media cause for even our younger students now, the School felt it was vitally important to address, educate and give the students some practical strategies that they can apply in the real-world scenarios they experience. This week, our boys in Year 3 had an hour long, interactive and engaging presentation on various topics relating to cyber safety from the experts at ySafe. It would be wonderful if all parents could continue these conversations at home, by asking the boys to share some of the things they learnt and then help them incorporate some of the lessons and strategies in their home context. We will be doing the same at school.  Our students in Year 4 will also have a similar presentation next week.

Pre-school’s Update

We are pleased to welcome back our children and families to what promises to be an exciting and engaging Term 4.

This term, our new unit of inquiry is, ‘How we express ourselves’ with our central idea, ‘We express and appreciate creativity in unique ways’. The children will inquire into:

  • The different ways we can express our creativity;
  • Ways we appreciate our own and other people’s creativity;
  • We celebrate the arts.

Throughout the term, the children will be encouraged to ask questions and use words, such as ‘express’, ‘appreciate’ and ‘creativity’.

The Day Book will be available at the end of each day to show some of the learning experiences that day and a digital copy is placed on Cranbrook Connect at the end of each week.

Please access the digital day books here on Monday 17 October; St Mark’sSt Michael’s 5 Day GroupSt Michael’s 3 Day GroupSt Michael’s 2 Day Group.

Uniform

Summer uniform can now be worn, but due to the unpredictable weather at present, children may also want to remain wearing long pants and jumpers. The most important thing is that our children are comfortable in what they wear and do not feel too hot or too cold. As the weather improves, we can transition to the full summer uniform. Please see Cranbrook Connect for further information on our Winter and Summer Uniforms; Click Here.

Staff News

Rachel Thomas will be taking a period of leave, returning on Friday, 18 November. Denise Soh will continue to work with the 2 Day Group in her absence, supported by Cate Gray and Dionne Jones.

Reuse and Recycle Uniform Sale

The CSPA is excited to announce that we will be holding another Reuse and Recycle Uniform Sale at the Cranbrook Boat Shed on Thursday, 20 and Friday, 21 October. All funds raised will be donated to a charity chosen by Senior School Leaders.

Please bring all your pre-loved uniforms in good condition to:

Junior School –  Junior School Reception

Senior School – by students in bins located in Houses

The sale in Term 1 was a huge success, with $5,792 raised and donated to the Red Cross. The Year 6 Leaders selected the Red Cross due to the wonderful flood relief work they do. We hope to see as many of you there as possible!

All funds raised will be donated to a registered ACNC charity chosen by Senior School Leaders.
