Years 3-6 Sport News

The first round of Winter Sport (Years 3 – 6) will be held this Saturday (29 April). Your son’s team fixture details can be found on the Cranbrook Parent App.

General details about each sport can be found in your son’s Year Level tab on Cranbrook Connect.

Thank you to our PDHPE team, Tommy Taylor, Josh Cohen and James Roughan, who accompanied students from across Years 4, 5 and 6 to the Gold Coast and Armidale during the recent Easter holiday period. Please follow this link to see the photo gallery from the recent football tour.

IMPORTANT: Y3 – Y6 Change to Uniforms on Training Days

We have reviewed the time taken to change into sports gear on training days, the loss of lesson or play time and the amount of lost property resulting from changing gear for the afternoon training sessions and have decided to make some changes to what the boys wear to school on their training days.

Starting this term, students should wear the following to school on their winter sports training days:

Mondays:

Y3 – Y4 students training for Rugby/Football should now wear to school their Cranbrook training gear (including their relevant training jersey) or their navy Cranbrook PE gear (if their Rugby/Football training gear is unavailable for any reason). Rugby/Football should wear their sports shoes to school and bring their boots/shin pads with them to change into before training commences.

Winter tennis students should wear to school their navy Cranbrook PE gear and sports shoes.

Tuesdays:

Y5 – Y6 students training for Rugby/Football should now wear to school their Cranbrook training gear (including their relevant training jersey) or their navy Cranbrook PE gear (if their Rugby/Football training gear is unavailable for any reason). Rugby/Football should wear their sports shoes to school and bring their boots/shin pads with them to change into before training commences.

Wednesday or Thursdays:

Currently, students in Y3 – Y6 who have a PE lesson on one of these days wear their navy PE gear and sports shoes and should continue to do so.

Fridays:

All students have Sport on a Friday afternoon. The Y3 – Y6 boys should wear to school their Cranbrook Football or Rugby training gear (including the relevant training jersey) or their navy Cranbrook PE gear (for all other sports or if Rugby/Football training gear is unavailable for any reason). They should all wear their sports shoes. Football/Rugby should bring their boots/shin pads with them to change into at lunchtime.

Learn to Swim Programme

Cranbrook’s Learn to Swim programme is pleased to announce that new spaces are now available for immediate enrolment. The programme has been designed to cater to swimmers of all ages and abilities, from beginners aged from 6 months to more advanced swimmers who want to refine their technique and become stronger and more confident in the water. If you are looking to enrol your child in a swimming programme, now is a great opportunity through the quieter season where you may receive more active learning time.

To make things even easier for parents and guardians, we have also introduced an online enquiry system for assessments. Our Learn to Swim team will get back to you with a response regarding the next available time slots for assessments. The assessments will ensure your child’s swimming ability is matched to the appropriate class based on their needs.

Cranbrook’s Learn to Swim pool will remain at 31 degrees Celsius all winter. This ensures that swimmers can enjoy the water in a comfortable and safe environment, even on the coldest days of the year. Our experienced instructors are passionate about teaching children to swim, and we use a range of techniques and tools to ensure that every child receives the support and guidance they need to progress. We believe that swimming is an essential life skill that every child should learn, and our Learn to Swim programme is an excellent way to achieve this goal.

Message from Michele Marquet

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to Term 2! It has been a joy to see all our students return from their holidays, eager to learn and ready to meet up with their friends once again. The term has started smoothly, with our students settling back into routines and classes quickly.

Mr Andrews, Mr Noble and some of our Year 6 boys did a superb job leading our Junior School’s ANZAC Day Service yesterday morning. Jansen Jiang, Jamie Petsoglou and Marcus Retboell led the service with a genuine appreciation of the importance of the commemoration. Ethan Sweeney, Henry Wittig and Jacob Kaddour managed the lowering and raising of our flags as part of the service with suitable solemnity. We were delighted to be joined by ex-Junior School student, Angus Malcolm, who play the trumpet for us.

Staff News

This term, we have warmly welcomed back to the Junior School, 6R Class Teacher, Mrs Lara Fleetwood (nee Myers), who returns from maternity leave and Mrs Liz de Wit, who has been on extended leave during to Term 1. This week, Junior School staff have welcomed two new babies: Scott Wells (6W Class Teacher & Year Level Coordinator) and his partner, Dionne (St Michael’s Pre-school Teacher), welcomed their first child, Alfred Carter Wells, on ANZAC Day and Laura-Jo Thorpe (Class Teacher & iCentre Team) and her partner, Keiran, welcomed their first child, Otis River Cook. Everyone is doing well!

At the end of next week, we farewell Mrs Rosie Heckes (Year 1 Team) who commences her maternity leave, awaiting the birth of her second child. Rosie and Laura-Jo will return to us in 2024. We wish all these staff the very best!

Kind wishes,

Michele Marquet

JS Prayer Morning

Next week on Friday morning, 5 May, there is a prayer morning with Mr. Noble for any parents or carers in our JS community. It will be held at 8am in Music Room 2 on the Junior School campus. It’s an opportunity for parents to come and spend time in prayer for each other and the school. We are planning on running these on the first Friday of every month during term time.

Morning Drop Off
The Cranbrook Junior School morning drop off begins at 7:45am and concludes at 8:15am.  To ensure the traffic in and around the school continues to flow, we appreciate you not arriving before 7:45am.  All boys must be dropped off by 8:10am at the latest to ensure the school day starts on time.

After receiving several neighbour complaints last term, we again kindly request parents to please not park in driveways along New South Head Road (between Kent Road and Iluka Street) when dropping off their sons to school.

No cars should enter the school grounds before 7:45am, unless students are being dropped off for a co-curricular activity that begins before then. Please do not park or wait in the driveway or roundabout prior to the 7:45am. Any boy who arrives before 7.45am (and does not have a co-curricular activity) will be sent to Before School Care, as we have previously indicated.

Afternoon Pick Up

In consideration of our neighbours in Kent Road, Royal Sydney Golf Club, and the Woollahra Council, we are providing updated afternoon carline times to get you in and out as fast as possible.

The Cranbrook Junior School Walking Gate on Kent Road will be open from 2:30pm daily. We encourage all parents and students, where possible, to park in Lyne Park behind the tennis courts and walk into the School for drop off and pick up.

If you need to collect your child in the carline, please arrive at the indicated time for his year group and not before:

For Kindergarten, please arrive after 2:50pm.

For Y1 and Y2, please arrive after 3:00pm, as students are still in class until 3pm.

For Y3 and Y4, please arrive after 3:20pm.

For Y5 and Y6, please arrive after 3:30pm.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in this.

Student Cap Development Application

Further to the School’s thorough community engagement programme and resulting decision by School Council last year to enrol girls into the Senior School from 2026, we are currently preparing a Development Application for submission to Woollahra Municipal Council to increase the enrolment cap at our Bellevue Hill campus from 1339 to 1600. This planned increase will come into effect from 2026 and will provide sufficient capacity to accept girls into the Senior School offering a fully coeducational environment across all year groups from 2029.

In 2018, the School took the important decision in its State Significant Development Application, approved in 2019, not to seek an increase in the Bellevue Hill campus cap until it had an opportunity to assess the impact of providing an additional 124 parking spaces on site and a Kiss & Drop facility through the revitalisation of our Senior School campus.  Both the car park and Kiss & Drop have met their respective design intents and importantly have improved traffic management around the site. There is, however, an increasing demand for places at schools like Cranbrook in the eastern suburbs.  Additional places at schools in the eastern suburbs, coupled with Cranbrook School enrolling girls in 2026, will satisfy some of this demand and mean that there will be further choice for local families.

Applications for Enrolment for girls in 2026 are now open. Should you wish to enrol your daughter(s) into Cranbrook, please visit www.cranbrook.nsw.edu.au/enrolment/apply-to-enrol/ or contact Enrol@cranbrook.nsw.edu.au for further enquiries.

If you have any queries regarding the changes to the School’s enrolment cap please email Cranbrook@cranbrook.nsw.edu.au. We welcome your feedback and are, as ever, grateful for your support.
