K-Y6 CARLINES
Thank you to our many parents who cooperate so wonderfully to assist the carline to run as smoothly as possible. As Co-Curricular activities and training commence next week, we should start to see the carline move into a smoother rhythm.

A few reminders for our parents as we settle into these routines:

For the afternoon carline

  • Please arrive in the carline as close as possible after the following times: K 2:55pm; Y1-Y2 3pm; Y3-Y6 3:20pm
  • Please go to the numbered umbrellas to collect your son – follow the staff’s direction, if not sure.
  • Please make sure your son can do up his own seatbelt asap. This is particularly important for our Kindergarten students.
  • Please display your son’s name card on entry to the internal drive.
  • Please display the card on the sun visor flap – placing it on the dashboard makes it very difficult to see.

For the second carline after co-curricular activities

  • Please follow the directions of our staff, including our security guards, when asked to move on.

K – Y6 HOW TO ORDER LUNCH FROM THE CANTEEN
Our canteen provider is Chartwells. Cranbrook is a cashless school, so all lunch orders are made through My Student Account (MSA).

There are no over the counter orders or sales. If you have not done so already, please create an account. You will then be able to order your son’s lunch online via https://secure.mystudentaccount.com.au/. After you log in, select ‘Online Orders’ under ‘Online Ordering’, then select your child’s account and click the blue ‘Create New Order’ button. Then choose the relevant menu and start ordering.

K – Y6 BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CARE

To assist our families with work commitments or other needs and to allow staff to prepare adequately for the teaching day, TheirCare operate before and after-school care onsite for any K-Y6 Cranbrook student.

We ask all Junior School families to enrol their sons with our before and after school care provider, so that they can attend TheirCare for any early drop-offs required or in the case of an emergency after school. Enrolment takes 10-15 minutes online and costs nothing. Any student who arrives before 7:45am (and who is not enrolled in a co-curricular activity) will be taken to before-school care, so they can be safely supervised. Similarly, boys who are not collected on time in the afternoons will be required to attend TheirCare’s after school programme.

Please follow this link to complete the enrolment process: www.theircare.com.au (go to ‘Book Now’ tab and complete the form).

In 2023, Their Care has relocated to the Music Cottage (14 Kent Rd). This will provide a lovely home-like environment for the students with space for a variety of different activities and easy access to Dangar for play. Parents should still park onsite at 6 Kent Rd and then walk-up Kent Rd to access the Cottage via the front gate. You can walk through the school too, but it is faster via Kent Rd. The space previously used by TheirCare will become the Drama classroom.

Message from Michele Marquet

Message from Michele Marquet

Dear Junior and Pre-School families,

A very warm welcome to Cranbrook Junior School for the 2023 academic year! It was exciting to see so many of our students and families return last Tuesday and particularly wonderful to watch our Kindergarten boys arrive for their first longer day of School today. A very special welcome to those families who are new to the Cranbrook community, as well as our new members of staff.

Please remember that the Reception for the Junior School is overseen by Jill McPherson, our Office Manager K-6, and she can assist with all enquiries. The Junior School Reception phone number is 9327 9100. Our EA to the Executive, Gaia Tedeschi, manages the Absence Line and will often be the person in touch with families when their son is away.

K-6 PARENT INFORMATION SESSIONS – Thursday, 2 February 2023
Our 2023 Parent Information Session is being held tonight. The K-6 Parent Information Evening is the first opportunity for K-6 parents to hear about planned events and key information for 2023. Along with an opportunity to hear from your son’s teaching team, we will hear from our new Junior School Director of Educational Psychology, Campbell Jensen, who will help us all to set up our children for success as they return to school for a new academic year. We ask one parent from each family to attend.

After tonight’s sessions, our families will be provided with a document with important organisational and curriculum points for the relevant year group. We ask parents to read the document carefully and direct questions to their son’s Class Teacher.

K-6 PARENT-TEACHER INTERVIEWS – Weeks 2 & 3
Our parent-teacher interviews will commence later next week and run into Week 3. This meeting will provide a personal opportunity for parents to share important information that will assist us to teach their son this year. Specific times for your son’s Class Teacher should be booked using the Operoo link which will be sent to families shortly. Please book in a time by Tuesday, 7 February 2023.

Also in your son’s year level tab will be the Student Profile Parent Survey which will be sent home as a hard copy for parents to complete prior to the interview. If your copy does not make it home, please head to your son’s year level tab on Cranbrook Connect under General Information. Return this as soon as possible to your son’s Class Teacher.

STAFF NEWS

Grant Andrews, our Deputy of Student Wellbeing, is currently away on sick leave. He has been recovering from a cranial nerve condition affecting his sight and he is making good progress, although too slowly for Grant’s liking! I know you will join me in wishing him a full and speedy recovery.

Grant will begin to return to work over the next few weeks, doing part days when he does come back. As always, in the first instance, please contact your son’s class teacher if there are any pastoral issues impacting your son.

With thanks,

Michele Marquet

News & Reminders

Our JS Photo Day is on Thursday, 16 February (Week 3). More information outlining how to order photos and how the day will be run will be shared next week.

Introducing Rose Kelly Year 4 Red Class Teacher

Rose is a primary school teacher from England. She graduated from the University of Reading in 2016 with a Bachelor of Education (Hons) in Primary Education with a specialisation in Mathematics. She has shown her commitment to furthering her knowledge and pedagogy through completing a Master of Special Educational Needs (with Mental Health) which she is due to finish in April 2023.

Before teaching in Australia, Rose taught in Finland and in London, England. She was selected to be part of an outstanding teacher programme in her first year of teaching and, in subsequent years, was chosen to contribute back to the school by training other teachers.

Over the past seven years, she has spent a substantial amount of time becoming familiar with international methods of teaching and now employs this global mindedness in her classroom approach. This involved being trained in the Singapore Maths Model, which is now recognised internationally.

Rose has always had a passion for overcoming barriers to learning. When doing this, she focuses on putting the child and their needs first, whilst assessing their next steps. She believes that taking the time to create the most conducive environment for learning fostered in respect, curiosity and honouring diversity will ensure that all children will achieve their full potential.

In her free time, Rose enjoys watching stand-up comedy, scuba diving and netball. She was thrilled to see the Australian Diamonds win their test series against England, but she was secretly crying inside as an England Rose supporter! She is from Somerset, England and ever since she was a child, she has attended the world-famous Glastonbury festival, so you will probably hear her say, ‘I’ve seen them live’, with a little chuckle, at some point this year!

She is overjoyed to be teaching Year 4 again this year in the new role of classroom teacher and cannot wait to meet lots of new faces!
