Pre-Schools’ News – Week 7
St Michael’s and St Mark’s had a very exciting incursion this week from the Wandana Pre-School/Early Learning Program. We enjoyed a dedicated Pre-school program designed to inspire both students and teachers alike, covering many areas of Aboriginal culture in an active and hands-on manner. It was full of fun, unique and rich experiences for our young learners.
The Program started with a traditional Aboriginal Ceremony including Didgeridoo, Acknowledgement to Country, ochre face painting and a Smoking/Sweeping Ceremony. An exciting range of Aboriginal artefacts were handed around, alongside some role play and Dreamtime storytelling. Our Aboriginal tutors explained Aboriginal art symbols and their meanings before everyone got to paint their own personal ‘journey’ stone.
A stretch canvas painting, capturing the story of the Pre-school Centre in a modern, contemporary Aboriginal style was then dot painted by the children and teachers. Aboriginal songs were sung, and the program finished with a quiet time of mindfulness Aboriginal meditation called ‘Dadiri’.
